A few quick questions about Mary and the Rosary

1. Can, or should, a non-Catholic pray the Rosary?
2. If the answer to 1) is yes, then how would a non-Catholic benefit from praying the Rosary?
3. Is it OK for a non-Catholic to have a statue or picture of Mary, perhaps on a desk?

Yes. I know that there are some protestants who pray the rosary regulary. I think another forum member, Zooey, prays the rosary, and she is a Methodist.

How would a nonCatholic benefit? Well, you are meditating on the life of Christ as you pray the rosary. I think that this will draw you closer to Him as you do this.

You are also asking His mother, Mary, to pray with you, too. Don’t we all need someone to pray with us?

Of course you can have a picture of her! Don’t you have pictures of family members, friends, etc? It’s not any different.

I can’t improve on Mommyof4’s answer but wanted to add I know of other non-Catholic Christians who have prayed the rosary.

I guess I could add one more thing. Mary is a powerful intercessor. What mother woudn’t respond to, “I love you Mommy; pray for me”?

Yes, certainly. That is, it’s okay with us. If you’re worried about how your co-religionists might react, that might be a whole different story, depending on how they view the idea of structured prayer, and especially Marian devotion.

The same way a Catholic would - by becoming closer to Christ.

Put it this way - if Christ had a desk he’d certainly have a picture of Mary on it I don’t think he’d object in the slightest if we love her and honour her as he did or as he would do.

certainly it is ok to pray the rosary, many non-Catholics are already doing the heart of the rosary, which is the meditation on the scriptures about these incidents in the life of Christ and of his Mother. They can learn the recited prayers, with their scriptural basis, or they can pray with the scriptures themselves if that is more comfortable for them. My sister’s Baptist in-laws requested a dozen Scriptural Rosary booklets after I sent a couple, with rosaries, on request at the death of a family member. There are now 3 families of Chicagoland Baptists who pray the rosary regularly, thanks to sis (including a Baptist minister, his wife, and son.).
