A Friend Destroyed My Blessed Candle? What to do Now?

My blessed candle which I got from candlemass this year was totally burned out yesterday.

I wasn’t at home for a couple days, and a friend who was staying in my apartment burned the candle as a decoration, thinking it was just an ordinary candle.

I was honestly kind of attached to it. What should I do now?

Not to be flippant about it but get another candle and have it blessed. And don’t be angry with your friend as she didn’t know your attachment to it.
 
Ask your priest to bless another. Presumably you would have burnt this one down at some point anyway. What would you have done then?

Your friend did not know the candle was any different. Don’t think of it as a deliberate act “destrpyed”, simply a mistake.

Sacramentals are not magic tokens. We are not in danger if a blessed candle is burnt down, holy water spills, or a blessed palm crumbles.
 
Thanks for the reply, I know there is no danger from it, but the reason im upset is because I live in a foreign country and I do not know any priests who speak english to bless one for me. Whenever I talk to them they just think im talking jibberish.

And worse yet, the only priest I know who speaks english is no longer talking to me, (for a reason I do not know and fail to realise).

So considering all this, it is a bit stressful, since im very used to having at least one blessed candle around. I know it was a mistake, but to me anything is destroyed as long as its not existing anymore…

Anyway thanks again for the reply.

Try using an online translation program to word your request for the priest. It won’t be perfect, but he should be able to get the general idea of what you are requesting.

I agree with all the above, and would like to add that if the only priest who speaks your language won’t speak with you, you need to make an effort to solve that. If the priest won’t respond to your attempts, contact his bishop. If an online translation program won’t work for contacting the bishop, find a translator to help you. Even if you have to pay for the translation services, it’s worth it in order to keep contact with the only priest near you that you don’t have to struggle to converse with.
 
Take the candle with you, walk up to the priest, show it to him, and make the sign of the cross. Then point to him. Pretty sure he will be able to figure out what you want.

Or use latin. Even if the priest isn’t up on latin, he’ll have encountered it. 🙂

I really like the idea that our faith is greater than any one language as well.
 
I’d just like to say thanks to everyone for advise and replies. I know I might have overacted, but I can be quite sentimental for little things.

Anyway, Im now about to leave my apartment and head to a candle shop. After that Ill go to the parishes around doing a “priest hunt” to find someone who understands me.

If ill fails, I will try crossing myself and /or using latin as people here have suggested. Im hoping to return home tonight with a new blessed candle.
