Here is a speech a friend wrote for english class which he let me post here. I’m not too sure about some of the things he wrote so, pease let me know what you think with precision and charity:)

God Bless

here it is:

Greetings to all, especially the ladies and the gentlemen. In a world without Christ, truly we are intertwined within sin, that’s how it’s been, ever since man stumbled upon, the poisonous delight known as wisdom. For every individual brought into the world by the will of God, comprehends knowledge differently, therefore every individual depended on the land, rationalizes differently. The uniqueness of each being, contributes to the diversity of religion and beliefs some brought into existence from lustful royalty, and others designed through the true testament of the savior. The foolish feel compelled to lure the pure from salvations, by their heresies of predestiny, but the wise shall defend the truth just as their knightly ancestors once did. For the truth shall reign.
Protestants believe salvation is possible by faith alone, not by good works. Good works will result in greater rewards in the afterlife but have no effect on becoming saved. Purgatory is totally unscriptural. Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross was the only offering necessary and the only offering sufficient to provide salvation. Only the divine entity God may forgive sins. Mary had children by Joseph. Jesus’ brothers are expressly named: Joseph, James, Simon, and Jude.
Roman Catholics believe baptism the first sacrament is when we are forgiven for our original sin by God and then receives grace. This grace enables him to do good works. God appreciates the good works and rewards them with more grace. Because the Christian has more grace, he can now do even better works. This pleases God even more, so He gives even more grace. Purgatory is just the same as hell the only difference is it does not last forever and the person will be released into heaven. Catholic priests have been given the power to forgive sins, acting as representatives of the Holy Spirit. The pope speaks for all Christians even Protestants. Mary the mother of Jesus remained a virgin throughout her entire life. I plea to thee, even if it takes my downfall, I swear to all the confused, forsaken, and lost, for they shall find the Truth, The Roman Catholic Church, The way Jesus Christ truly envisioned… and for that I do not care if it takes a life or two form my peers shall be saved!!!
If my grave and tombstone are the consequences for my actions so be it, for the youth shall find the truth. TO all the Protestant dogs in the room ask yourself, Were did my believes and religion originate from? For The Catholic Church’s birth was from the will of Jesus Christ, for the Savior personally set the stone for the success of the church. For his words” Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, So I send you.”, from his divine words, our first leader Pope Peter inherited the right to the throne and from there on the role of pope became valid. To the youth this is the truth, these rebellious protestant fiends may no longer dwell in darkness for their deep hidden secrets shall be exposed!

I’m pretty sure this is not the way to reach people.

If I was grading it, at least a D-minus for lack of organization

No no and no. He’s zealous, that’s for certain, but VERY incorrect in what he’s stating and very incorrect in the pitch at the end. Would you like me to go through and grade the thing (from a catholic perspective, with a hint of my background in “forced” non-denominationalism)?

The author has a lot of energy, so he’s got what it takes to put a really good paper together. 🙂

All he needs to do is narrow his topic and then do the research to make sure he’s got it right.

You know what? I’m actually going to guess that the author is not catholic at all. I’m going to hazard to guess from the fact that the author has very closely nailed the non-denominational beliefs and dropped the ball entirely on the catholic beliefs that the author is actually a protestant… and a non-denom at that.

Further, from the utterly uncharitable means of “conversion” sought here, this whole speech looks like a sardonic trolling attempt actually designed to mock the church and to push people away. Protestant dogs? Not caring if people have to die to convert them? OBVIOUSLY not the way that catholics go about business… obviously mockery of what the author perceives (the inquisitions… a subject the author is apparently disgustingly uninformed about).

If I’m correct, then this speech is a deception, designed to hurt and segregate the protestants and the catholics. Instead of seeking understanding and greater respect for each other, or imploring that all christians work together, this is merely an attempt to spread animosity. And we all know who seeks animosity amongst Christians…:mad:

I got a similar feeling when reading this. I don’t know of any Catholics either now or in my past that had this horrific view of Protestants. I know of many Protestants on the other hand with such a view of Catholics. It sounds to me like a Protestant with a Catholic chip on their shoulder trying to reverse roles.

If they are a Catholic, I can’t believe they are practicing and faithful. That speach certainly does not sound Catholic, especially towards the end.

Disclaimer - obviously this is just an opinion. Something’s fishy about that speech. Pray tell, how old is the author? That may be why it sounds a little off.

I thought it was by a very young person (teenager) who knew little about the religion and was told to do a persuasive speech on a controversial subject.

It came out more offensive than persuasive, but I’ve seen arguments presented in the same way on these boards. 🙂

Lots of people make the same kind of arguments when they’re talking about abortion. They accuse rather than persuade.
