I dated a Catholic girl in college for a short while. She wanted me to go to Church with her and I always found excuses not to go. I could never explain to her that I wanted to sit with her and not in the prison cell for non-Catholics. We eventually broke up and years later I talked to a priest about why they put non Catholics in a cell.

He looked at me for quite a while and finally asked me when I had been put in a cell. I told him it was when I went to my cousins wedding many years earlier.

After a few more questions Father David started laughing. I don’t mean giggling, I mean I thought the man was going to stroke out.

Finally he calmed down and explained that only happened because I was 7 and my brother 4. He explained what the cry room was to me.

For years (10-15 years) I thought that non catholics had to sit in a cell.

Cry room!

…Until recenly my kids believed that your tounge turned black if you lied…and only adults could see it…
When I was a kid we would vacation in the summer with an old college friend of my Dads and his family. I was the youngest kid by 5 years and they would all play pranks on me. The place we stayed had a family style buffet every night for dinner and put a bowl of sour cream scooped out with an ice cream scooper on the table. The girls told me it was “canned ice cream” and tried to get me to eat it. So I dug in and imagine thier surprise when I ate the whole dish of it. I love sour cream!!!
I have a friend who believed crock shoes were edible!!! Some one told her they were made from dried sea weed. And hikers wore them for emergencies. We still tease her. when we see someone wearing crocs we say Hungry? The gerrn ones are mint flavored!! Who would eat something you wore on your foot all day!?! Blegh!

I’m headed off to Mass or I am sure I could list a TON of ridiculious things I didn’t know or thought I knew. But the one that comes to mind: :doh2: :blushing:

I didn’t realize until just a few years ago that the US Capital and the White House were two different buildings.
I’m almost 40 years old. How could I have not known that!!!
Seriously??? I thought they were the same thing??? :o

When I was little, 4-6 years old, in the country that we used to live they used to have these celebrations every year… I don’t really remember what they were for, but they used to have these giant dolls I mean giant as tall as houses parading around… One day I was misbehaving because I wanted to go the park not stay in the house to watch the parade, my mother told me that if I didn’t behave that the dolls would know and would come to take me away and to be careful and pay attention to the giant doll if it were to come towards our house because that was a bad sign and there was nothing they could do about it except let me go…

I didn’t believe her, so I kept pouting, I still remember because it traumatized me… About 20 minutes of continuously pouting, this huge doll starts walking towards our house…

My mother said “see i told you wait and see when she asks for you, i will tell her she’s right here take her she’s yours!!”

I ran and hid under my parent’s bed as fast as I could… I promised I was going to try and be a good little girl, and tried I did!! 😦 So every year after that when I knew the celebration was coming I was close to an angel…

My grandmother had a tree in the front yard with this weird fruit… My grandmother wouldn’t let anyone touch the tree nor the fruit… I loved climbing trees… My aunt told me the reason my grandmother didn’t want me to touch the fruit was because it was magical and since grandma was magic she didn’t want to share her powers… Eh when you are little!! I climbed the darn tree one day, I planned it all out, I was 6… I knew what to do and how to do it… I had my siblings keep her busy for about 15 minutes, then when it didn’t work any more they started running out of the house screaming, “grandma knows what you are doing run!!”

I tried to reach the fruit before my grandma came out but she was too quick and yelled at me to get off the tree she scared me so much I fell down from one of the highest branches and broke my right arm…
