I am having a hard time meditating on the mysteries while I pay attention to the prayers I am saying.

You can’t concentrate on both things at once. If I’m concentrating on the words of a prayer, I cannot simultaneously think of a mystery, and if I am deep into a mystery meditation, I am saying the prayers as background while I think about the Nativity or whatever, which means I am not concentrating on words of the prayers.

I recommend that you perhaps try just reading or thinking about the mystery for a couple minutes at the beginning of the decade and then say the prayers. Or use a “scriptural Rosary” meditation where in between each Hail Mary you read a line of scripture or a line of meditation. Lots of them online for free if you want to try that.

Use a phone app. Some have the mysteries included including a very illustrative image of the mystery involved.

Me too. I find having a meditation to read on the mystery helps. Every Friday, for example, I pray a rosary for vocations to the priesthood and religious life using a booklet called Praying for Vocations: A Meditated Rosary for Vocations to the Priesthood and Consecrated Life. Each decade begins with a short meditation relating the mystery to the intention. It helps me to stay focused. Perhaps something similar would help you too.

What I do is i try to condense each mystery into a virtue, and then make the 10 Aves of that decade a petition to the Blessed Mother for that virtue…

example- the Annunciation- Acceptance of God’s will
