On a recent afternoon at home, I received a visit from a young man, who I had tutored when he was a small boy.

This boy was one of many children in an Asian refugee family. The whole family were my informal students for help with English language, reading, and math.

They subsequently moved away, and I had not seen them for some years.

Imagine my surprise when this young man, who has just graduated college in police science, told me that I made everything in his life possible for him to accomplish, and that he affectionately regards me as a father figure.

That is the story, but I think the lesson is that our good deeds have persevering consequences, and that we can do worthwhile things that are of great and lasting import to other people.

Hi MagickMan,

Thanks for sharing this story with us.

That’s really great to hear–how much of a difference you made in this young man’s life. 🙂

Yes, it is heart warming.
It is wonderful that he came back. Chances are, others feel the same only they have not done something about it as this young man did.

Yes, thanks for sharing that! And it reminds me to let people know I appreciate them.
