A Holy Room

Our Church has a room behind the alter with glass all around it. It has a huge gold container in the middle on a beautiful platform of some type. It also has pews around it. I have often seen a few people go in there and pray. I am assuming it is holding the Eucharist?

I really dont think I am worthy enough to go in there. It kind of scares me. It looks like it is for very very holy people or something. I dont ever remember seeing this room when I was a kid. Is this something new?

You must be a recent revert?

Yes: that is the Blessed Sacrament chapel. You can go in there any time to pray. People keep silence in there, since even when the Sacrament is in the Tabernacle (the gold container) and not exposed in a monstrance (the special stand with a small glass chamber that lets you see the Host), it is a place of adoration.

Just spending time in there with an open and prayerful heart can enhance your growth in Christ. 👍

Yes, I recently came back to the Church around 6 weeks ago. Cradle Catholic here.
So what you ae saying is that it is already transformed to Christs Body and Blood? The the Priest does it again at Mass or does he use whats in there to give to us. Kinda confused.

Still kind of scared to go in there, plus everyone can see me.
I am kinda rough around the edges and I think people would think “what is he doing in there?”.

I mean the whole room is glass. I would love to take a picture of it. Do you think it would be ok to do that?

Ask the parish office about taking pictures - some are happy for you to snap away, some don’t like photographers in their churches, others require you to obtain permission (or even a paid permit!)

As for the Adoration Chapel - Jesus said he came to call sinners not only the righteous, so don’t be scared to go say hi (I mean you DO want to live in His presence in eternity, may as well start now by being in His presence in the Blessed Sacrament!)

Yes: The Consecrated Host(s) are kept in there. The main purpose is for communion for the sick so that a Mass does not have to be said every time you need to give communion to someone in the hospital or who is home bound.

At Masses, in addition to the hosts the Priest consecrates for that Mass, they will take out the ciborium (the cup the consecrated hosts are kept in) and distribute some from there to keep the supply fresh.

Rough around the edges? Puh-leeze. Not to worry! All kinds of people go in to be with the Lord for a few minutes (or an hour). No problem. As for pictures: you might ask someone in the office. I’m bad, and have a silent digital camera that takes pictures practically in the dark, so I’ve snapped things in churches that I won’t admit to in public. :whistle: I wouldn’t recommend it as a general practice though. Technically, there is nothing wrong with photographing the tabernacle. Just don’t do it when anybody else is in the room. The place IS for prayer; not for photography.
 
Volunteer with teens here - our youth group meets on the convent grounds where is also located a Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Some of these teens are very “rough around the edges” - as are some of us adult volunteers. Taking a group of those teens into that Chapel and are moments that I will cherish forever.

There is something so profound about sitting there with Jesus. I’ve just popped in while running errands, and I’ve run there in times of crisis, sobbing in agony to my Jesus.

You might find out if your Adoration Chapel is 24/7, and sign up for an hour in the middle of the night - less people “looking at you” 🙂 Just you and Jesus, looking at each other.
 
Jesus came for sinners, not holy people–he wants to make us holy 🙂 . Spending time with Him is a beautiful expression of His love for and ours for Him 🙂
 
As you mention in your other posts your struggles - this would be a great place to pray and lift up those vices that trouble you. Do not be afraid to enter, kneel, and pray for guidance needed. It will be less distracting and very reverent.

You’d be setting a great example for others too.
 
Oh yes, please don’t be scared!! That’s the power house of the whole parish. If you don’t know what to pray, just pop in, sit quietly and keep Him company. You are so lucky to have a lovely chapel right there in your home parish.

Honestly – I used to stalk adoration chapels when I was in the process of converting. I found 'em all over San Francisco and the Peninsula. I know that “I don’t belong” feeling, but it really isn’t so… He instituted the whole darn thing just for YOU and ME!!

We moved to a very rural area with no adoration chapel, and we are pretty much shooed out of church right after Mass. Back when I still had a vehicle (I’m a “stuck at home” Mom now), I’ve was known to still drive to a locked Church and park in the parking lot facing where I knew the tabernacle was…

The Blessed Sacrament is powerful stuff, and quite addictive.

Doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks of us – it does matter what God thinks (rather, knows). : ) We’re all to strive for holiness, yes? – nothing to be ashamed of. Not all parishes keep their churches open between masses, so what a privilege you have, to surrender yourself in such a special way, in the presence of our Lord, body, blood, soul and divinity, to praise Him, thank Him, petition Him, talk with Him, listen to Him … and to just be with Him, our source of strength and joy. I hope you’ll put your fear aside one of these days and allow yourself to kneel in adoration (etc.) in your parish church. (I’m jealous – my parish doesn’t have this available to us).

OutfCtrl:Welcome Home!!! I wouldn’t worry to much about who might seem holy or not in the blessed sacrament chapel. Don’t let others keep you away from what you want to do. What is most important is you are there with God and he knows your heart.
You my friend will love the wonderful peace it brings you and dont let anyone keep you away from that even if you are alittle rough around the edges. :angel1:
 
I dont know. I used to be pretty wild. Promiscuous, hardcore drinking, real swearing and I mean serious, plus some other stuff I am not proud of.

It just seems you have to work at being a good Catholic before you enter such a holy place. I have only been back 6 weeks!!

When I first came back to the Church, my first confession and Mass, I sat at the very back. I mean the furthest from the alter. Its’ just I didnt feel worthy enough to be any closer because of my wretched life. I am serious.

I now sit about 5 rows from the back maybe 6. I am getting closer. Well, thats how I feel about getting close to the Tabernacle. When I feel that I have scaraficed and suffered enough and that I have given Jesus everything I have, well almost everything, I will then enter.

He gave up his life for our sins. What have I done? Gone to confession? Mass? Straightened my life up a little?

I think I may know how you feel. I’ve been a “prodigal daughter.” When the prodigal son returned to his father in shame and unworthiness, he begged to be a hired hand, but his father celebrated his return (Luke 15). We’re all unworthy, but he calls each of us his beloved. Jesus’ own hand-picked apostles were sinners. I suggest that you try to imagine yourself in one of the crowds following Jesus nearly 2,000 years ago – eager to see him and to hear him, perhaps to be ministered to by him. Imagine yourself to be Zacchaeus, who knew he was a sinner, who climbed a tree to get a glimpse of Jesus – and he caught Jesus’ eye – and then Jesus wanted to dine and talk with him (see Luke 19). And Zaccaeus allowed his heart to be transformed, and Jesus told him “For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save what was lost.” Or imagine yourself yearning to merely touch Jesus’ garments (see Matthew 9:20, Mark 5:27, Mark 6:56).

Jesus loves you, and wants you to rejoice in Him always.🙂

I rejoice for you – that you are giving glory to God by believing in him and seeking his merciful love.

Just reread the story of the prodigal son who was greeted with a feast when he returned home in spite of his wretched past.

And the verse about ‘there is more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 just men who do not need to repent’ :getholy:

Repenting of sin and trying to lead a Godly life IS a big deal - and not at all easy, as you’re finding out I’m sure!

Do you think you’re the only sinner in the Catholic Church?

Consider that Peter denied Jesus 3 times, but how did the Lord treat him? The Apostles all abandoned Jesus when he was arrested, but how did Jesus treat them?
These men lived with Jesus, 24/7 for three years. They saw his miracles, heard his words and felt his love. They failed horribly.
Yet Jesus forgave them and even gave them the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven.

Your sins are far from being as bad as theirs were, yet the Lord forgave them, and so he forgives you as well.

God is merciful and forgiving. Go to him in the Eucharist and have no shame whatsoever. You are forgiven and have a right to be there in the chapel with Him.

I will go to confession a little early tomorrow when no one is there.
I hope I have the courage to go in.
