Dear Friends
Today I woke up too late to attend the Holy Qurbana at St. Mary’s Knanaya Church, so instead I went to my local Latin Catholic Church or St. Laurence Catholic Church. At the end of the Holy Mass, the priest will often stand in the back awaiting the people who want to shake his hand and talk to him. So today I went up to our vicar and told him that I am an Eastern Catholic or specifically a Syro Malabar Catholic, he responded happily, saying that he sees a lot of us at St. Lawrence. I continued on to say that when people think of the Catholic Church, us Eastern Catholics are often forgotten. As the conversation continued I jokingly asked him if he could maybe one day give a short brief or summary about us Eastern Catholics in his homily. Surprisingly, he replied with a smile, saying that he would be happy too, I was ready to ask more questions but there were others that wanted to speak to him, so I quickly ended our discussion.
I was very over joyed with what my priest had to say, I am hoping that I will be able to attend St. Laurence on the day he gives this homily if he gets time to. The priest had also mentioned that he was surprised that so many people had no idea what Eastern Catholicism was and that he thought this whole time most people knew of the basic structure of the Church. Anyway I hope if he does give this homily it will really give people who are ignorant of us, a better understanding of the entire Catholic Church.
