After gathering the raw numbers from nearly every government agency in the state’s criminal justice system, examining the data, and researching the disparate outcomes, Harvard Law School’s Criminal Justice Policy Program found that Black incarcerees received more severe charges, harsher sentences and less favorable outcomes than their white counterparts. They looked at more than a million cases, from the initial charges through the conviction and sentencing, and discovered disparities that could not be explained by logic or reason.

[…]

What they found is the criminal justice system is unequal on every level. Cops in the state are more likely to stop Black drivers. Police are more likely to search or investigate Black residents. Law enforcement agents charge Black suspects with infractions that carry worse penalties. Prosecutors are less likely to offer Black suspects plea bargains or pre-trial intervention. Judges sentence Black defendants to longer terms in prison. And get this: The average white felon in the Massachusetts Department of Corrections has committed a more severe crime than the average Black inmate.

[…]

The researchers even looked at poverty rates, the family structures of convicted felons and the neighborhoods they lived in. They eventually decided that the only reasonable explanation that explained the disparities was racism.

This isn’t even new information. Blacks have been pointing out these disparities for a long time. Gathering solid evidence should help each area to address these numbers so I’m glad some more research is available. And they can be addressed! There is no reason to ignore the evidence. Acknowledge it and address it. Honestly that’s all that most blacks are asking for!

And yes, there are exceptions and some radicals screaming for complete overhauls…but, I’m talking about the averages here. Most blacks don’t want special treatment or overcompensation. They just want the system to be fair and equitable.

I hear a lot of white supremacists are joining the police force.

How true is this?

The death of George Floyd is just the latest example of the injustice Black Americans face. It hurts me to the core—watching the police officer kneel on his neck and a second officer who watches the entire time as Mr. Floyd’s life slowly slips away in front of our eyes.

I was incensed.

Again?

Unfortunately, the response by genuinely frustrated Americans is being hijacked by radicals who have nefarious ambitions unrelated to the honorable goals of the peaceful protesters. Outside agitators, professional anarchists, foreign governments, and criminal opportunists are using the emotion and anger of the protesters to pit American’s against each other and to create chaos.

Taking a break from social media once in a while isn’t the worst thing IMO

It has not escaped my attention that Kenya has had severe problems with police brutality and obviously one can’t just dismiss that as racism.

It is a noble thing to protest, Reverend King never used violence. Some protests have been spoilt by the agitators.

I actually don’t think that’s very true…are some on the force white nationalists? Probably. Is there a culture of racism in some police forces? Probably but I think they are few and in the smaller forces in small cities. Larger police forces have too many multi cultures for it to be tolerated. Maybe I’m naive but I’m not one to scream racism at every police action but, I also think it’s something every police force should be on the lookout for as racism can creep in when no ones looking.

I interacted with many street cops when I worked in the ER. Often, they have to bring in guys for alcohol testing or psych meds. They’re a tough bunch, a bit rough around the edges but they take their jobs seriously and most really seem to want to help people much more than hurt them. I’ve seen them cry when they brought in a drowning victim of two years old…or car accidents. They seem to really love kids of any color. Can they get jaded over time? Yeah, I think some might. But, I’d never condemn the lot for the few.

Ah! The giveaway is right in the first quoted sentence:
After gathering the raw numbers from nearly every government agency in the state’s criminal justice system, examining the data, and researching the disparate outcomes
So this is the disparate impact theory. This is nothing new. It has been proposed for a decade or more. It presumes all people have the exact same motivations, exact same perspectives, indeed the exact same culture. Indeed, it has the assumption that everything being equal, different outcomes mean different treatment. But the assumption underlying this theory is bunk.
