There is a church down the street from me I rarely go to. I was not able to make it to my regular church this week end so last night I went there. There was a new priest I did not recognize. Not being in a state of grace, at communion time, I crossed my arms over my chest and received only a blessing.

After church I asked him if he would have time to hear my confession. He started to walk to the confessional. I told him ‘I can wait until you finish saying good by to everyone one’. He said ‘No this is more important’, I replied ‘You don’t know me, I could do this to you every week;)

After confession he said ‘If you would like, I can give you communion now’!

My heart jumped for joy. Not only did he remember, he was kind enough to go out of his way so I could receive Jesus.

Such a lovely story I just wanted to share

God bless this wonderful priest, a true icon of Christ. I don’t know if you will think this is a good idea or not, but it was the first thing that entered my head. You could write to the bishop, and tell him about your experience with this priest who helped you in your time of spiritual need. If you don’t know the priest’s name, you can thank the bishop for sending such Christ-like priests to such and such parish. I would imagine that bishops receive mostly letters of complaint, and a letter like this would make his day.

I have been having a rough time and this wonderful story went a long way to restoring my spirits.

Nice to hear a good story of our beloved priests for a change.

Blessings

In a world full of horror stories, your wonderful experience made my day!

God bless this beautiful priest, and you for sharing it.

He is a missionary, would the bishop be the one to send him? I am all for complimenting priest, I am just not sure the bishop sent him

At the very least, the bishop would have approved his assignment (however temporary) to that parish and issued him the faculties to say Mass and hear Confessions, so yes, by all means, write to the bishop. You might either cc his order superior on that letter or write a separate one to him, mentioning that you wrote to your bishop about this, too. They’ll both be thrilled to hear this story.

If the priest belongs to a missionary order, the bishop, or one of his predecessors, had to invite the order to work in his diocese. Maybe the bishop would invite more of these great priests to work in his diocese of he knew how well they worked with the people. If you did write to the bishop, he would probably let the religious superior know what a good job his men are doing.

Thanks for sharing this story and there are a million and more positive stories regarding our church. Perhaps we should have a thread regarding positive personal Catholic stories.
