If God has a plan for us then it is possible for us to follow that plan with his help. His plan does not involve sinning so with his help after the age of reason assuming we were baptised we should be able to live a sinless life.

I have been thinking about this for a while and would like some theological support for this statement.

Sure, Christ says this Himself:

Matthew 5:48
So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.
note: this really isn’t a recommendation on God’s part.
Conclusion, its possible to be a living saint with His grace(ie: the Sacraments, Mass, sufferings, the Saints, etc).

not that it could be validated but do you know of any saints that may have accomplished this and maybe any early Church fathers that have written about this. I have the Bible passages that is where my argument started and thank you for replying so quickly I was looking for some support

The Blessed Virgin Mary lived a completely sinless life, free from any personal sins and from Original Sin.

Hello KS and welcome to Catholic Forums!
Code:
God created Man in His image and likeness. We are a part of Him and He a part of us. After the Fall, God was separated from Man. That leaves a BIG hole in Man. This hole is bottomless and ever since Man has been trying to fill that hole with no avail. Some fill it with drugs, some with false religion, etc.

Then you have God's plan for reconciliation. From the Fall to now, God has been trying to refill the hole that Man has created for himself. You have Noah, Abraham, Moses, Isaiah, and Jesus who were sent to guide Man back to the Creator. Jesus fulfilled this plan when He reconciled the world on the cross.
When we are baptized, the stain of Original Sin is removed, and we are born again into life rather into death. However, we still have the inclination to sin. Mary, who was immaculate (without the stain of Original Sin), did not sin because without the stain, she did not have the inclination to sin.

You may ask, “why doesn’t baptism remove the inclination?” Baptism removes the stain, but does not fill that bottomless hole. What the baptized person can do is fill that hole with God’s grace. With that grace, the person can become more holy, pure, chaste, and loving. The more grace the person receives, the easier it is to repel sin.

How does the person attain grace? Faith, working in a system of grace is one way. God showers us with what is called “Actual Grace” every moment of our lives. Sometimes we refuse to accept it, rather to follow our own desires. Other times, we accept it. When we do, we feel this urge to do good. For example, I could feel the urge to help out at the soup kitchen, help the hungry. When I do so, I perform a good work. After I perform this good work, the actual grace is then transformed into Sanctifying Grace. This remains with us forever and cannot be removed unless we commit a mortal sin. Sanctifying Grace is what helps fill the hole.

Another source of grace is reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist. Frequent reception of both Sacraments will help infinitely in your battle against sin.

Prayer and reciting the Rosary are also great tools. St. Paul says that everything is Grace. Quite true! It is unbelievable how easy it is to access God and receive His grace.

A person cannot become sinless overnight. Some spend a lifetime battling sin. But in the end, we will be purged of this inclination through Purgatory, and then we can share in the eternal banquet!

I believe all of that but did not Jesus repair our relationship with God and thus filling our hole as long as we choose him his love. My point is that sin is not a part of life but a part of death and since Jesus conquered death and sin with his help we can do the same and thus we don’t have to go to purgatory if we were to choose him from the very moment of our age of reason. Inclination or not I know it is hard not to sin but is it possible. To the Virgin Mary post I would say that is a good example and when used was confronted with this reply. Since the Virgin Mary was “…full of grace” and we are not it would be easier for her to live a sinless life since she (as stated in the last post) did not have the inclination to sin. That leaves me with the question of was there anyone else?

Also can you show me where it is in the Catechism that that is what the Catholic Church teaches. I think that would be helpful in convincing the person I am debating.

You mentioned that with the help of Jesus we can too conquer sin. That is true, but you also have to factor in free will. We choose to accept that help or not.

I adhere to the Augustinian thought that sin is the privation of good. Sin does not exist of itself. Rather, it is simply less good. You can measure heat, but not cold. Cold is simply less heat. Jesus conquered the result of sin, which is death. We still have our personal battles with sin, by which God’s grace helps us. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is Jesus helping us up after we have fallen.

I do not have my Catechism with me at the moment. I will give you some excerpts from it by Saturday.

I agree this is what ought to happen. But its just not happening. Thank God for the sacraments and the Church or I would kill myself having no hope at all to my disposal.

my question is do we have to fall again though. Since we have free will we can choose Jesus every time though not probable that is possible right? If it is possible then a person could go to confession and from that point on never go back if he chose Jesus every time after that.

I definitly agree it is not what is happening but I want to know if it is possible to happen. I think from what everyone is saying it is possible though not probable and I agree with that.

👍
I agree to that too!

I know an attorney named Shuster. But, he is Jewish.

I bet there are some people out there we dont know about, that have made it without falling. We just dont hear about them though. They are likely very low profile and go unnoticed.

I have often thought about that.

I would definitly agree. I woul think Holy People probably don’t live thier lives only to fall prey to the sin of pride 😃
