Well, I’m thirteen and I haven’t had the two sacraments of initiation required to have by my age yet. So, my mother and I went to the deacon and he said I had to wait a whole year for the sacraments. Well, we didn’t like that so we called the secretary of another church and they told us to speak to my religion teacher, which we did. Then we emailed the priest and he said with a letter of permission from my priest that he could perform the sacraments. I’d like all the other priests to give my family and I their blessings and the rest of you to pray for me. Thanks y’all!
God Bless y’all,
Jessica :nun1:
First, a question, are you saying you have never been baptized? Or that you haven’t received First Communion and Confirmation? Different places do confirmation at different ages, so depending on where you are at…
If you have never been baptized, then you would (hopefully) be part of the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) process, which will take about a year, maybe even a bit more. You would then receive baptism, confirmation, and first communion at the Easter Vigil, probably next year, maybe even the year after that.
If you have already been baptized then there is some kind of sacramental “catch-up” program in your parish that you would attend and at the end, receive the sacraments appropriate to your age in your diocese/parish.
Either way, there is a time of preparation. If you are just walking into a parish and expecting them to allow you sacraments right away, it isn’t going to happen. They want to make sure that you understand exactly what you are getting into. They want you to be an actual part of the community. You may very well have an understanding of the sacraments, but they don’t know this and it takes time to get to know you. Or maybe you just have a very basic understanding and this time allows you to learn and grow more in your faith.
I will also point out that the coming week is the CRAZIEST in the whole year, the priests (and everyone else in the church) are extremely busy right now. If you wait a couple of weeks until after Easter (and maybe another week to allow them to catch up on sleep

) it will probably be a bit easier to sit down and have a conversation about whatever is required in your diocese/parish to help you prepare for whichever sacraments you will receive.
