It is. Some colleges have them, some do not. The university where I went to school had a Catholic Center, but it was not known as a Newman Center. 🤷

Thanks! I went to a few universities; they were all small and had no such places for Catholics.

The problem is that the churches around us like those are quite “old” (i.e., no people or our age there which makes it kind of hard to connect with Christians who have much in common with young folks with a brand new baby). How should I approach this? I want us to be where we can make connections and grow together as a family, but that is very hard to do when there is not a whole lot offered to you. HELP!

Please not that I have nothing against older people:) ; they are awesome, but we don’t have much to share with one another, and we all know that we need people we can relate to. Give me some advice, please, but try and not prostelytize. I’d like to try and not have an arguement about denominations here.

As someone suggested earlier in this thread, why don’t you study up on worship in the Mass? Jimmy Akin of CA has a wonderful little introductory booklet called Mass Appeal which explains the Mass and gives relative scripture verses.

Anglican worship is similar to Catholic worship, but void of valid Holy Orders.

Once you begin to understand the “whys” about the Mass, I think your interest in the Catholic Church will start to peak.

As to whether Anglicans possess valid Holy Orders (generally), hence whter they celebrate a valid Mass, and confect a valid sacrament, Anglicans have a different view. But if the OP is inclined toward Rome anyway, I’d suggest following their lead on that.

God bless you in your journey, reteeks! I would rule out Anglicanism for sure. Do your homework before going in that direction. Orthodoxy, while full of beauty and a legitimate priesthood, does not have the papacy.

Mass can appear “boring” to the novice observer but upon study and a deeper understanding of those early Christians and what the Mass REALLY IS, it’s an utter miracle taking place before your eyes clothed in ceremony. It is the opening of heaven and the sacrifice of Christ on the altar, the same sacrifice that Jesus made at Calvary. Since God is outside of time, He is able to make manifest the ancient Act of Christ on the Cross in all places at all times for us to see and be a part of. The heavens open, angels abound, the mere bread becomes the Flesh and Blood of Jesus, Mary is watching, God the Father is watching, all the choirs of angels and every saint is watching. It is a mystical moment of humans meeting their divine Saviour intimately in communion and through song and gestures.

Be open to the reality behind it. Yes, there will be some babies crying or some people not singing sometimes. Sometimes the priest might have had a long day and gives an urbane sermond. But behind it all is that out-of-timescape majesty of the King of Kings coming to visit you and make His sacrifice for YOU and ME. It’s amazing.

Try reading Scott Hahn’s “The Lamb’s Supper” and some other books from EWTN and Catholic Answers about the history of the Mass. If your wife and kids and family understand the Mass and its reality there will be buy-in. There are many Catholics, sadly, who have no clue what is happening before their eyes.
