Hello šŸ™‚ I’ve posted bits and pieces on other threads but right now, I’m feeling the need to get my story out there and to get some help from you wonderful people!
I drifted away from The Church years ago, actually, I don’t think I was really and truly ever really involved. Sure, I went to Church with my parents, attended Catholic Schools, participated in all the necessary Sacraments etc. but I think I was just doing all the motions and wasn’t into it with my whole heart. Anyways… I was made to go to Mass every Sunday until I was appx 16 I think. That’s when I began drifting. I started being promiscuous, lying, stealing, pretty much, all the bad stuff. I completely drifted from the Church, though deep down inside I still had some faith. I then got kicked out of my parents house (not getting into all the details) moved into my own apartment, began sleeping with just about any man I could get my hands on, even a few women. I had my boyfriend, a total loser, move in with me for a couple months. He left, I moved on to the next guy. Ok, I think you get the picture. In that time I did tons of drugs, was drunk VERY often, couldn’t hold down a job… Finally, things in my life started looking up. I found a great job caring for mentally disabled individuals, which I still do today. I met my husband who was, at the time, a fallen-away Catholic. We got married in a chapel in Gatlinburg, TN in 2003 and began trying for a baby. Nothing! So I finally went to the Dr. and was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and told that it would be difficult for me to conceive naturally. The Dr. then recommended that my husband get checked out as well. Well, his sperm analysis came back bad as well but they told him that he could probably reverse that on his own with changes in diet and some other stuff I’m not getting into lol. So, I pretty much just freaked out and gave up hope. Our marriage started getting rocky and we separated for about 3 months and within that time I was unfaithful. During that time, I realized that there was no other man on earth that I wanted to be with other than my husband so we got back together, I told him of my infidelity and though he was very hurt, we reconciled and had been doing fairly well.
A couple months back I was flipping through the channels and stumbled across the Jim Bakker show lol yeah, I know… He was endorsing a Bible on CD series read by women. I thought to myself, Hey that would be great! I can listen to it in the car, while I’m on the computer etc. but I didn’t feel comfortable ordering it from him given his past. So, I got on ebay, ordered it, got it in the mail a few days later and popped it in right away. Mind you, this is before I realized there was a difference between the Catholic versions and the Protestant Versions that I had just purchased. But hey, it was still the Bible! That made me feel sooooo good hearing God’s word again! A few days after that I was flipping through the channels again and came across Mother Angelica! I’d seen her before but never thought a nun would be that interesting. Well, something made me stop and listen and it changed my life!!! I honestly can’t even remember what the show was about but I remember saying to myself ā€œas of this moment, I am changing my lifeā€ and I did. I went out and purchased a ton of literature, began reading my Bible, got it set up to get our marriage (finally) convalidated in the Church, became addicted to catholicanswers, more as a lurker than a poster but hey, I’ve learned a ton!!! Went to Confession after over 10 years, began going to Church again… My life literally changed in a matter of minutes. I am on cloud nine!
My only fear now is that this feeling will eventually wear off. I don’t ever want to go back to the place I was a couple months back, a life without God was MISERABLE!!
I’ve begun praying the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, attending the occasional weekday Mass in addition to Sunday along with my other daily prayers and almost constant conversation with Christ. Continued below:

Lately, I have been having a few run-ins with satan in my thoughts. Like today, for instance, I was standing outside and I was thanking the Lord for coming back into my life in such abundance and I swear it was satan in my mind saying ā€œthat’s because you’re too ugly to be with meā€ Now mind you, I don’t think I’m ugly so I dont’ think that was just my sub-conscious. Then as I was saying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy just a little bit ago ā€œhate Godā€ kept playing over and over again in my head. This has NEVER happened to me before. I know in my heart it’s just because satan HATES that I’ve left him and turned back to God. I’m just, like I said, terrified that this overwhelming joy I have in my heart right now is going to wear off. Has anyone else had this fear?
I’m so sorry if I’ve bored you all to death, I just really need some re-assurance right now. Y’all probably will think I’m nuts lol
Thanks for reading my novel and your comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The Lord has brought you home to Him, and as you look back, you are seeing the ways that He has drawn you closer to Him—you are marveling at the events that, through His Divine Will, He made happen.

Before I tell you what I want to say, I want to say that I too had a great conversion experience back into my faith when I was 21 yrs old, 22yr ago. I wondered if this is HOW I would ALWAYS feel—it was like having something removed from my eyes, and all my tendencies to worry and dislike myself disappeared. it was as if God was telling me"this is what I want you to work for----I will give you a foretaste, but I will take it from you—and then you will have to put your efforts—"
It is so wonderful that you don’t want it to wear off.

I remember one momentous time when it did—I even remember the year and the time—I was laying in bed—and I felt so utterly alone with myself. I had been given direction by a very kind, generous, and older priest who said to me in his beautiful Canadian accent: ā€œAll is fine—the Lord has left you to be on your own, to see what you will do with His giftsā€¦ā€ and he smiled like it was a joyous ocassion. The Lord trusts you! Be joyous about that ! He believes in you more than you believe in yourself…

Remember the last part of the Chronicles of Narnia?? Aslan left the children and the creatures alone to take care of their business–do his will (as we should do God’s Will when he leaves us at times) They often saw Aslan taking solitary walks on the beach—like the way we should know God is there even when He leaves us to make responsible choices. the choices won’t always *feel *good to make—but God sees all—He will be way more glorified in this manner . Sometimes you may fail, and you will feel miserable, but you WILL pick yourself up, as we all must.

God Bless you
and it was a pleasure to listen,šŸ™‚

Hello krissy343 - yes, when we want to walk with Jesus, Satan never likes it. It did and still does happen to me - thoughts, images come to my mind that I never want them to happen. I would not try to fight back on my own; I would not think about them too much, but simply ask Jesus, Mary and Joseph to protect me.

if the thought ā€œhate Godā€ comes to me, I would tell the Lord that every time, I commit a sin, I do not love You, Lord - so help me to Love you.

If the thought " I am too ugly" com to me, I would ask the Lord to keep my soul beautiful for the beauty of the flesh one day will disappear.

Always turn to the Lord for such things with humility and humble, Satan cannot beat that for he is the mother of Pride.

Thank you Lisa!!! I do fear the day that He will leave it all up to me but, I know I can get through. I just LOVE this feeling that I have right now and I dread the day that it does end 😦 I liked your Narnia analogy šŸ™‚ That’s one of my favorite stories! Thanks for sharing your story with me!

What a wonderful testimony to the healing power of God!

Of course Satan wants you back. Unfortunately the spiritual battles rage on throughout our lives, sometimes worse than others.

I have found the St. Michael prayer very helpful when I’m hearing those voices or feeling temptation:

St. Michael the archangel, defend us in battle. Protect us from the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do thou, o prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell satan and all evil spirits who prowl about the earth seeking the destruction of souls.

Also, repeating ā€œJesus I trust in Youā€ and ā€œCome Holy Spiritā€ are very helpful.

Thanks water! I think I would be tempted to try to take it (satans taunting) on my own, I know I did earlier but I will definitely start asking for the help of our Lord and our Mother. All these new feelings are just overwhelming me now, I feel like a totally different person! Your advice is wonderful and I thank you so much šŸ™‚

Krissy343,

Satan will try everything under the sun to tempt you. Be prepared for spiritual warfare. Your wonderful change of heart has brought feelings of great joy. Feelings come and go. Be prepared to accept your life of faith without the euphoria you now feel. Look at Mother Theresa of Calcutta. She lived by faith against the darkest of feelings. Her endurance and perseverence are an incredible example to us. She loved and obeyed God even when she felt spiritually abandoned and alone.

Let God’s grace work in you regardless of your feelings. Thank God for the joy you now feel. When the joy subsides give even more thanks and ask for the grace of perseverence. Satan will be close at hand and he never seems to give up. We are all tempted throughout our lives.

Pray for me as I pray for you.

hi Krissy,
I encourage you not to walk your journey of faith alone.
Pray incessantly, of course.
Take advantage of the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.
Jesus gave us His Church. We help each other to run the race, to persevere in faith. Worship with other Catholics … and join a supportive group, whether it be classes, bible study, or ongoing formation offered by the parish, prayer groups, or small faith-sharing groups.

I just LOVE this feeling that I have right now and I dread the day that it does end 😦 I liked your Narnia analogy šŸ™‚
Krissy,

When I first had this great feeling of yours, a friend of mine at my parish gave me this advice that this high feeling might not be the same, it can go up and down and steady. So, he told me to be prepared.

My friend was right - the great feeling that I had is gone; however, I have come to realize that that high feeling of mine was the spark that God gave me so that I could turn my life around and walk toward Him. I am now walking toward Him steadily and slowly discovering who I am and ultimately who God is – it is a long life process for each one of us to grow spiritually – praying, going to mass, studying Bible, doing charity work, etc …especially receiving His Graces … are what we need for our journey to Him.

You’re very welcome, Krissy. I love the Narnia Tales…when I was pregnant with my last kid, I read to the older girls often at night(yes they still like it, 😃 ) I remember when the 12 yr old (11 at the time) wondered how anybody could love to pray. I know she did not mean any disrespect—it was a real question. I referred to the Narnia Tales in my desparate attempt to expalin, and it was put in my mind to explain that we seek God, even if we don’t realize it–we search for Him as the kids searched through the house playing hide and seek. When we pray, the door may seem wooden at times, as in the wardrobe door, but if we pray sincerely seeking God, He always invites us in sooner or later to another realm.

I just love all the analogies we can get from that story!šŸ˜›
I will stop with all the analogies from it though—now THAT* will *get tiresome:rotfl: You on the other hand are welcome to talk as much as you like. I sometimes need some support—so you’ll likely catch my posts where i need some encouraging words too:D :yup:

I like your words—thank you ( I know they weren’ tfor me, but i took a bite of the cake too:p:blushing: ). I often get real discouraged with the process though, until i remember that it took a lot of beating to mess me up—it will take a while to build it back up–of course with all that you say: Jesus, mass, prayer, and reaching out to others in charity…the process is as long as a lifetime, or beyond…

I understand where you’re coming from. For me, when Satan tries to get the best of me, I place my thoughts towards Christ, and if I can, I run to the Eucharist - not out of fear, but of reassurance, that He is always here for me, and that I can always go to Him when I need Him.

If you can, try and spend some time in front of the Blessed Sacrament. The fact that you hear God’s call, and you respond, is one of the best defenses against the evil one.

God Bless!

Hi Krissy,
What struck me about your story was that you recognized the emptiness yourself and responded to this grace given to you. That in itself is something of a plus in this reversion of your baptismal self. In my case, my baptism and first communion where a saftey net, combined with the prayers of others, that saved me from some real eternal trouble. I was deserving of death and hell, but was shown great mercy and giving a chance by the Lord two years ago. It was a very powerful moment, that left little, if any room of doubt in God’s existece and love for me. But it was also filled with warning. To this day, I still don’t know if I ever live up to the level expected of me to change, but I know that I am to help bring my family to the Lord’s feet by teaching and example. Maybe their souls will be witnesses in my favor at the day of judgement along with their salvation that I want for them. It sounds like you have some souls to care for as well, as a wife, mother and in your job with the mentally disabled. It is a great responsibility and the Lord will help you with His grace as long as you keep responding. Also because of the souls you will affect in your life, you may come under some adversity from the enemy, combined with what part of yourself that harbors guilt and doubt in your heart. These combinations can really wreak havoc of you if you are not careful, but the Lord will use them if He has to, as a way of training you to be more reliant on Him alone, to humble you. I don’t presume to know your disposition, but going by my own experience, maybe some of it applies. I have found that a devotion to divine mercy and pursuing the indulgence on divine mercy Sunday to be most helpful in dealing with myself and my past. The indulence is a great gift and you should really do it. It wipes the slate clean as far as justice goes. I’ve done it once and plan to try for it every year.
As far as these little voices or thoughts that come to you or well up deep inside, they can be from the part of you that doesn’t want forgivness, a self destructive part from the self or they can be from an outside source. I have the same thornes. They lessen with frequent confession and doing my prayers verbally, which happen to affect when I bring my kids with me to confession and they hear me pray. Funny how the Lord will allow things like that for the better good. Try to find the reason and accommodate the Lord’s will in it if it continues to be a problem you can handle yourself. Along with frequent confession and verbal prayer, I see a secular counsler for dealing with trauma and guilt, plus I’m seeking permanent spiritual direction. The few times I have talked to a SD have been greatly helpful in figuring things out. Keep seeking the right combinations through out your life to settle your troubles. These too are open doors for you to spread your faith. I’m teaching my counselor more about Catholic spirituality then she is helping me:) . It’s a great trade off. Always look for those doors the Lord provides even in the face of adversity. Welcome back and God Bless, Tim

Thanks again for all the heartfelt responses. They have really made me feel better. You are all in my prayers šŸ™‚
