A little song snippet for those considering the religious life

Everytime I think over becoming a priest, I think of that. I hope you, brethren, let God come into your heart and help you find your calling.

I love that song! At the first cathedral I’d ever been to this song played and I was crying uncontrollably from how beautiful it was! (If I was a man I’d be on the road to becoming a priest for sure)

Thank you for reminding me of this song - I always hear the chorus as my own words when we sing it at Mass as well! I also love “Be Still My Soul.”

The song that has helped me most in my own discernment is “Perfect Time” by Maire Brennan - whenever I find myself getting impatient at how slowly things are progressing, or upset over new obstacles, this song reminds me gently that the timing of things is up to God, not to me.

There are two recordings on YouTube - not the best versions, but reasonable. Here are the lyrics; I’ve put some parts of the chorus in italics to show that they’re sung by another voice.

One of the things I struggle with the most in my discernment is trusting and surrendering to God. This song, Here is My Life Lord by Ed Conlin, really helped and is helping me with this.

Behold the eyes of the Lord search the face of the earth, to find hearts that are given, seeking souls to make pure. To enflame this worlds darkness, to warm could hearts with grace. Am I here Lord for such a time, for such a place?

Here is my life Lord, heart, mind and body. My soul’s surrender take it for your own. And you will lead I know where only love can go. Here is my life oh Lord, my life for you.

There is a love stronger then death, passion deeper then this life. In the heart’s purest longing lies the pearl of great price. One love all loves surpassing, true surrender the cost. Am I here Lord to bear this love, and share it’s cross?
