This ha sto be kept in mind. The Latin Novus Ordo at St. John Cantius is the principle Sunday mass there, BUT, it is celebrated Ad Orientum, and all masses there use the altar rail for communion(though a handful of people, usually tourists stand for communion in the English masses), no altar girls, and no EMHCs.

I have been to St. John’s twice this year…once for the Tridentine High Mass and the other for the Latin Novus Ordo…both are extremely beautiful and as reverent as I’ve ever seen. They used LOTS of incense at the Latin Novus Ordo…the more the better with me !

My family and I go to St. Agatha’s in St. Louis for the TLM & have been going since this past July.

Recently, one of the priests from the relatively new Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem, Fr. Daniel, has been saying Mass at 0610 at the ‘New’ Cathedral until their oratory opens in the west suburbs. I like his style with the Latin Mass…he uses a ‘measured pace’ which is also quite audible for the first half of the Mass. It makes it much easier for us TLM newbies to learn the proper Latin pronunciations, which is where I currently struggle, especially with the really long words!

Re: Incense - I hated it when I was a kid - maybe they use a better brand now because now I love it.

We too have “learning” priests who don’t move too rapidly through the Latin - makes a longer Mass but easier to follow. We had a Missa Cantata (high Mass) last Sunday - one hour and 45 minutes but it seemed like a blink of an eye - it was so well “heavenly”🙂

And me. 😦

I miss Chicago sometimes; the area in which I grew up and where my mother still lives. I wish you could count me in.

By the way, could a person who partakes in a liturgical buffet be called a “cafeteria Catholic?”

Alan

Oh no - a cafeteria Catholic goes into the whole line of doctrine and dogma and chooses only those things which he likes to believe that suit his life style and making him disobedient to the Church’s teachings.

That’s why I used liturgical Buffet - a splendid feast given by Holy Mother Church of all the allowable liturgical treats from which we may obediently choose (one or all) and still be in harmony with the Church.🙂

Has anyone ever particated in the WHOLE Mass schedule?
That would be great devotion!
