I’m really scared, this just happened to me some minutes ago.

I was walking by the street, and I heard a man asking for help. I didn’t want to get close at first, but then I got closer and I asked what was going on with him. He said he had been hit by somebody and that his ribs hurt. He asked me to call to the emergency number for an ambulance. So, I called. While I was talking, a man got down a car, and started kicking him.

So, I ask you for some prayers, first for the life of that man, second, for the man who hit him, and third, for me. I don’t know if calling might get me in trouble. The agressor didn’t stop me from leaving, even though he saw me standing close to him.

Please, pray for this, because I don’t know what will happen. Thanks beforehand.

Christ, hear us.
Christ, graciously hear us

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and
snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God, thrust into hell satan, and
all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Hopefully you are somewhere safe. Maybe call the police or fire when you are in a safe location. May your guardian angel keep you safe.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning is now ever shall be world without end
Amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Just one man got down? Were there others with him? Are you a lady, or a weak man? Otherwise, could you have not tried to protect the man? I cannot judge, but I am putting these things out there for consideration, because sometimes we are called to defend the weak, not just call for help or pray. I will also pray.

Most charming and saintly Physician, you were animated by the heavenly Spirit of love. In faithfully detailing the humanity of Jesus, you also showed his divinity and his genuine compassion for all human beings. Inspire our physicians with your professionalism and with the divine compassion for their patients. Enable them to cure the ills of both body and spirit that afflict so many in our day.

Amen.

St. Michael, protect us from evil and physical oppressors!

A prayer based on Luke 10:25-37, the parable of the Good Samaritan:

Merciful God, many are the times that we have been known
to pass by on the other side of the weary and wounded.
Numerous are the days, Stranger God, that we have chosen the road of convenience
over the road of conviction.
Faithful One, enliven within us a Samaritan spirit,
that we might respond with courage in the face of our fear,
that we might risk our certain agendas for unexpected grace,
that we might give ourselves over to a generosity more bountiful
than the smallness of our single-minded self-preservation.
Break open our chained hearts and draw back the drapes of our darkened eyes
that we may go and do as you have done. Amen.

It’s been more than a year and I’ve barely been around, I know.
The thing is: I don’t know what happened to that man. But, living in a city plagued by the drug war ongoing in my country, I would have been putting my life in danger. I felt like a coward, yes (I’m weak, I admit too). But had I defended him I’d might not be alive.
