A mantilla and jeans?

A mantilla and jeans? No, personally I wouldn’t but then I almost never wear pants, anyway. I know a very nice lady who does that at a weekday Mass we both assist at. To each his own.

So, am I hearing that if I am dressed in slacks as my work requires and I have time to stop in to visit with Jesus on my lunch break–that I either should a) not cover my head to avoid the incongruity of a “feminine” head covering vs “masculine” slacks and a pink blouse OR b)not stop in for a visit at all because of my choice to always appear before my Lord with my head covered?

Here’s my final opinion: I think you all are worried way too much about what other people wear and their internal reasons for doing so. You have no way to judge whether or not I am being disobelient by wearing slacks or I am simply trying to earn a living to help support my family. I think you all should worry less about whether I am wearing a head covering during Mass with either slacks or dress or skirt or whatever and worry more about your own reasons for paying more attention to what other people are wearing, than attending to your own spritual growth. :coffeeread:

I do not think that the mantilla and pants are in anyway incompatible. Maybe it’s just me but I buy pants that are feminine.

I do think it’s important what one wears to Sunday Mass. We’re human beings and we need physical reminders that Sunday is different from every other day of the week. It’s also a sign of reverence toward God. Yes, I know that God doesn’t care what we look like but I do think He cares about the effort exerted in getting ready for Mass.

In conclusion: Nice feminine pants and a mantilla are fine. There just need to be a combination of nice clothing and the mantilla for Mass, so I would say no to the jeans on Sunday… period, regardless of the mantilla.

I just started covering during mass and adoration a few months ago and the only headcovering I have is a fairly long ivory lace mantilla. Now when I go to adoration at 6am on a Saturday morning, I throw on whatever jeans and t-shirt I can find in the dark as to not wake my husband. I don’t think it’s the most fashionable combination I’ve ever been seen in, but I don’t have anything else and not covering my head just doesn’t feel like an option to me. That being said, I do wear nice slacks or khakis to Sunday mass on occasion and I think my mantilla looks just fine as I wear a nice sweater or blouse with it. The few other women that cover also usually wear skirts, but I’ve seen some of them in pants too. I don’t worry too much about what everyone else is wearing. If I did, I probably would have never had the nerve to start covering at all! And that would be a shame, because now that I do, I can’t imagine not doing it! :byzsoc:

Oh my…I’ve been following this thread and I don’t think anyone is “judging” anyone or “worried” about what others are wearing. How do you get this impression? In fact, this has been a most friendly thread with people relating their own personal preferences.

I’ve known several devout ladies who wore trousers or pants suits–and always covered their heads.

But slacks/pants and jeans are two different worlds.

That, to me, is like comparing an Oxford shirt to a t-shirt with an AC/DC logo on it.

While slacks/pants are still leg coverings, as are jeans, slacks/pants can be dressy, business like attire.

Jeans can be nice and even business like… but c’mon… how often does that happen?

I think that the dichotomy of a woman wearing a mantilla (or other chapel veil) and a pair of jeans is like that woman this summer who got stopped at the airport for wearing a hajib (the traditional covering for Muslim women… who do so as a show of modesty), and a micro mini skirt
