Glory to Jesus Christ,

I have a co-worker who is getting married in the Church next year. He and his future wife are Catholics, as am I. He told me the other day that they found a priest to marry them and that when they meet with this priest they told him of their intentions not to have children. He also said the priest was enthusiastic about this news. I was little scandalized by this news. I am an orthodox Catholic and I fully accept the Churches teaching on marriage, contraception, ect.

Wouldn’t going into a marriage with the intention of not having children make a marriage invalid? Why would a priest be supportive? What if I am invited to the wedding?

Thanks for your assistance.

I’d be careful about believing 100% of what someone says a priest told them. Sometimes its the truth, sometimes its out of context, and sometimes its a lie. People have told me that a priest said something to them and then when I talk to that priest it turns out the story is quite different.

If someone never wants children and is never open to having children then the marriage is invalid since being open to life is an essential element of the sacrament of marriage.
