A month til Lent!

The tree is still up at my house. We are still enjoying the Christmas season quite a bit, but I realized last night that we are exactly a month away from Lent. :eek: I knew this year we had an early Easter, but I didn’t realize quite how compressed the calendar is.

Is anyone thinking ahead to Lent and what they will be doing for preparation? I am starting to read *Introduction to a Devout Life *again. I know I won’t be done by Lent and maybe not even by Easter since I hope to implement more of his wonderful advice in my life.

Anyone else?
 
I was telling my wife last night, I can’t wait for the fish fry’s!

My tree is still up too! :o I hope to get it down and all put away this week sometime. We just put it up on Christmas Eve - I’m not really ready to let it go yet! I love the look of it in the room.

No - I’ve not had one second to even consider Lent yet. I need to do this, and I really would love a year where I can truly and devoutly consider my Lenten observations. Not sure if this is the year or not - I’ll do my best to make it so though.

I was thinking the other night how I’m looking forward to our parish’s Living Stations of the Cross. Our youth group does it the weekend before Easter and it is so wonderful. Very emotional, especially when you hear the hammer hit the nails.

I’m also looking forward to Holy Week and the Triduum (sp?). This will be the first time I"ve been able to attend all the services because I’ve ususally had class on Holy Thursday.

How interesting! We also just put our tree up on Christmas Eve this year, and the tree is still in the living room. I am taking it down this Saturday.

As for Lent, I am looking forward to it. I will both give up and take up, no details yet. 😉
 
We didn’t put the tree up until Christmas Eve either. We usually do it on Gaudette (sp?) Sunday and take it down on the Baptism of Our Lord. We had some idle talk about leaving it up until the Presentation, but since that it just days before Ash Wednesday, I’m thinking NO!
 
Palm Sunday is the day before St. Patrick’s Day! I can’t remember the last time Easter came so early in the year . . .
 
I love Lent, and I love Easter even more! Don’t like fish that much, though.

Don’t eat fish then! 😃

Really - come Lenten time there is bound to be a thread about non-fish ideas. My DH and I never eat meat on Friday, all year long. And we hardly ever eat fish - that’s actually pretty rare with us. Beans, pasta, potatoes, veggies, salads - there are TONS of options out there!

Release your inner fish and let him go! He need not hang around if you don’t want him to! 😉

Thank you for giving me permission to do that!🙂 I like the other foods you mentioned- the beans, pasta, potatoes, salads, etc.

As a member of BSP and CFP, I’ll be doing the traditional Lent Fast. One moderate meal a day, plus one or two smaller snacks not adding up to the main meal. Plus a quart of non-fat milk daily for the calcium intake. (I am at increased risk for osteoporosis.) Also to abstain on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Sigh…sometimes I get the impression that my cats eat better then I do:rolleyes:
 
During Lent, I give up politics, news and most web forums.

Also, I make a week-end retreat in March, can’t wait for that!

BTW, I just took down my Christmas tree yesterday.

I’m with you, Sr. Sally. Can’t believe how fast Lent and Easter will be rolling around, this year. Whew!

I did manage to get the Christmas decorations down over the weekend. Not sure I’m ready for Lent, though. Will have to give it some thought.

Is it just me? Or does TIME… in general seem to be really whizzing by now? Anyone else?
 
Well the tree is still up. So it looks like the 13th is the soonest it will come down (right on schedule!).

Yes, time does seem to be FLYING by! Hopefully it’s not an age related thing! LOL

We do like fish, but still there are so many non-meat choices. We don’t give up meat except during Lent. I always want to make it a year-long tradition. it’s just that bbq weather usually starts right after Easter…😃
 
I know how they figure the date of Easter canonically, but it sure makes RCIA harder, trying to cover the material in a shorter time, even if you start right after the previous Easter, this also pushes up Confirmation dates, which has good and bad points. I am afraid I get to thinking of the liturgical feasts and seasons only in terms of what I have to do, get done, cover, accomplish. Hope this Lent I can learn to reflect and let go and allow God to work and lose my arrogance.

I will be praying for your intention. I hadn’t thought of how hard these seasons must be for the DRE and other parish staff. Kind of like being a resturant cook on Mother’s Day! LOL
