Two mormons stopped by and usually I take the time to evangelize but today I answered the door in my nightgown and a towel on my head. Told them I was a happy Catholic and wished them well on their mission.

What do you do when someone stops by that is of another faith?

Two men stopped by my door one time, either Mormons or Jehovah’s Witnesses. I’ll never know because they didn’t stay very long. Wearing fancy-schmancy business suits and big smiles, and bearing shiny suitcases, one asked, “Why did God make you?”

I answered, “God made me to know, love, and serve Him in this life, and to be happy with Him in Heaven in the next life.”

Their smiles dimmed in surprise, and one said, “It seems you’re happy with your religion.”

They were already turning and leaving as I responded “yes.”

It pays to know your old Baltimore Catechism. 🙂

How true. I still teach this lesson with the reasons. I could always recite that but when I was young I did not understand it. I always go through each reason with my students and explain them.

Good!
In my catechism, that’s the 3-fold mission of man : to know, love, and serve the Lord.

I love it when they come. I pull up a chair on the lawn and we begin. Apologetics is a hobby. But had I had a town on my head I too would have had a time of it.

My mom has a little sign that says “Happy Catholic inside: Mormons and JW’s move on”

The sign should say, “Happy Catholic inside: Mormons, JW’s, and all others come on in for a visit.”

Thats what I told her but she’s not a gabby gal…

Dear Pythagoras:

Hail and well met! * bows good greetings to you * I love the way you phrase our purpose in life as being a mission. Definitely, being firmly well-grounded in our own faith so that it shows to those of other religions such that they can learn from us is the best way to counter their trying to convert us. 🙂

Dear Toni:

How awesome that we in the Catholic Church have you for a catechetics teacher! Isn’t there a place in the Bible, or maybe it’s in some other spiritual reading, where it refers to those who teach the faith as shining like stars in heaven for their reward? :blessyou:

My mom was a religion teacher as well – it felt like having a built-in spiritual director in the family. 🙂

One year, I was unwittingly drafted into teaching religious education to a teenaged Confirmation Class by a nun who claims she did not trick me into doing it but boy was I surprised … Amazingly the Holy Spirit was with me that year so I survived, but that one year was all I could handle. :whacky:

Thank you! I feel very blessed with my job. Going to the chapel every class period. Having a classroom right next to the chapel. I always tease about drilling the brick out so I can see the sanctuary light and the children would always be silent and listen.

But they are pretty good. The young students have such a love for Christ and they keep my faith strong despite all the things that go on in the church today.

I also teach catechism one night a week in a parish and am grateful for that as well. Children have such innocent souls and they do want to please Jesus. I don’t think I would be into teaching the older grades they have such a wall around them it is hard to break through.

But I have many souls to save for all the damage I caused to my soul and others for years in school.

I think next time, I will give them a huge bear hug and then bring them in for some talk. I promise not to open a can of Dr. Pepper in front of them though…or even a glass of wine for that matter 🙂 I’ve thought about starting to do some door to door around here, just to revive the word in many people’s hearts. It’s mostly Catholic and Mormon around here and I know we could all use a little reminder of who Christ is and what we owe him, huh.

I have let Mormons in before to do a bit of evangilising but I have found that I have had to have the house re-blessed after they have been.
I feel a dark spirit of deception follows them around…or is in them?
JW’s won’t even come near the house because it is so obviously Catholic, they did only once and i won them over with hospitality which they could not handle; never seen them again.
God Bless

My priest told me that he’s taken Communion to one of our house bound parishioners a couple weeks ago. While there, the door bell rang.
Father answered it. In his Roman collar he greeted the visitor with a “top ‘o the mornin’ to ya!” The bible toteing, suited jw’s jaw dropped. The jw stuttered around a bit then just said “Good day sir” and walked away.
I guess jws don’t want the challenge of “witnessing” to a true and knowledgeable Christian. That’s a lesson to us all. Though we don’t wear the collar, if we know our faith, and can impart that we do, most of the door knockers don’t even want to try their “conversion” moves on us.

For a long time all the businesses on our street were being flooded with J.W. literature and Jack Chick tracts. I found my customers drinking their coffee while persuing the literature left behind. Finally, on December 7, I decorated my restaurant front with blue and white roses, a large statue of the Immaculate Conception. I removed these things from my restaurant front on December 8. Not one publication have I received in, on, or around my restaurant. The other businesses still get flooded with pamphlets, but now the Chickies and the JW’s leave us in peace.
One day. That is all it took.

I am with you on this one. I have St. Francis and the Blessed Mother in the front yard in the summer I stand outside and tell them all about the stigmata and Mary, then I will grab my Divine Mercy picture and explain it to them. I do love when they come when I am not in my pajamas.

You should my older boys have done missions with the Legionaries and they bring the church bulletin from the local parish and ask them if they would like them to pray for them, and will invite them to a special Mass for them. It is not hard core like the JW’s and Mormons it is more a peaceful way of bringing Christ to others. Just a thought for you.

interesting thread with good posts 👍 now i have a good idea of how to deal with JWs and Mormons when/if they stop at my door

And, there’s a good chance one of the jw’s was a former Catholic and was stunned to see a priest open the door.

When they come to my door the first thing I say is “I am a Catholic and very happy to be one”. Many times one has responded that they used to be Catholic. Of course, an interesting conversation began, but didn’t, to my knowledge, go anywhere.

“If any man come to you, and bring not this doctrine [of Christ], receive him not into thy house, nor say to him, God speed you. For he that saith unto him, God speed you, communicateth with his wicked works.” (II John 10-11)

What a testimony of faith. I am sure Mary was pleased.

If this was to be taken literally how will we ever be apostles for Christ. Look at Scott Hahn, Patrick Madrid and all thee others. We are all called to learn and teach the gospel to all. I have spoke to atheists, Mormons, JW’s, Baptist. If they come to my door I never gave them the chance to evangelize.( If you can’t tell I love to talk especially if it is about the faith.) I evangelize them if I am not in my pajamas and towel on my head.
