What is the audience? How many people will there be and how old are they?

I don’t know if you want to go to the theater with a group, but in Les Miserables many of the songs are in the form of prayers the characters are making - often at cross-purposes to each other. It’s a film where faith and the Church are both portrayed sympathetically.

I do not know if this movie is appropriate, but try “August Rush”, I really liked this movie. There was one scene that bothered me but you could discuss that in your post movie discussion. Other than that, I found the movie to have a really important message.
Here are some quotes from the movie:

***“You know what music is? God’s little reminder that there’s something else besides us in this universe, a harmonic connection between all living beings, every where, even the stars.”

“The music is all around us, all you have to do is listen”***

I find the last quote very powerful. It is exactly a character of God, His music and presence is always around us, we just need to listen, just like Jesus says, “anyone with ears should listen”

Another reccomendation:
Since the age group s 35 years, try watching the movie, “Fireproof” It’s about a married couple trying to find God. I really really liked this movie 🙂

If you think that your audience would be receptive to something “heavy”, then I would suggest considering the following:

Into Great Silence - documentary about the Grande Chartreuse, the mother house of the Carthusian monastic order. Warning, it is fairly long and there is very little talking during most of it (as the title suggests, there is a lot of silence), so you need to watch it in a place where there is little or no “noise pollution” - a lot of exterior sounds would be very distracting. It is really unique and very rewarding if you can watch it in the right environment. You need to be really alert - it is easy to nod off in the middle if you haven’t had enough sleep, as I discovered to my sorrow when I saw it in the theater.

Of Gods and Men - not a documentary, but it is based on a true story, that of a Trappist monastery in northern Africa which was faced with the decision of whether to remain in their current location, as their lives were threatened due to the spread of Islamic terrorism; or to relocate their monastery. The monks decided to be faithful to their vows of stability and to remain where they were. In the they end they were all killed by the terrorists, or at least most of them. I haven’t seen this one but it is supposed to be really good. Both Catholic and secular reviewers were pretty much unanimous in praising it.

Both of these movies are in French with English subtitles.

I was also thinking “Into Great Silence” Beautiful film!

If you’re looking to rent an older one, how about “The Apostle” with Robert Duval. It is not Catholic, and it has some adult themes, but it could certainly get people thinking and talking about prayer.
