Muslims love to talk about religion. The reason for this is Muslims take their religion more seriously than most Christians do.
Really? And how was this tested? Please show me the results and the measure used for ‘seriousness’.
I spent 17 months in Morocco and 11 in Iraq. The Muslims want to discuss Christianity and Islam. Naturally, they are happy to defend Islam. It’s sad that so many Christians are either unable or unwilling to do the same for Christianity.
Many Christians are afraid to, because any criticism of Islam, is seen as an insult. And Christians may also be aware that trying to talk about their faith in Islamic nations is often illegal. However this forum where we can discuss without fear of being bombed as infidels, you will see many Moslems dodge real debate.

The most common practice is the ‘you too!’ argument.
Personally, I am always ready to discuss politics with anyone.
Come on over to the non-Catholic religion threads. I’ve not seen you do too much discussing there! 😉

Hi Willma,

You may not have time to do it before your husband sets the date, but I would encourage you to get this book so that you can continue your conversations with your Muslim “friends”. It’s called Inside Islam: A Guide for Catholics by Daniel Ali and Robert Spencer and it’s excellent! Daniel Ali is an Iraqi Kurd who converted to the Catholic Faith in 1998 and in the past has done a series about Islam and Christianity on EWTN with Fr. Mitch Pacwa. I recommend this book highly. It is written for the average laymen in a very clear fashion without the technical language and it is not overly long. I particularly like the catechism-style question and answer approach.

But a warning: don’t approach the book as an arsenal of quick answers designed to help you win a debate. I would advise you to not attempt to use the information in the book after only a brief surface skim of the topics. I personally would delay any conversations about the “meat ‘n’ potatoes” of Islam vs. Christianity until you have had a chance to read the book well and understand/reflect on the points it raises.

Hope this helps! God bless!

I have a Muslim co worker; she is very nice. We decided to have dinner one day. Me and my husband went for dinner and I must say it was very interesting. My husband was not mush offended as I was; but he wasn’t paying close attention to what he was saying. Her husband “Muhammad” was basically trying to convert us. I felt like a caged animal. He went on and on about how Islam was the true religion and how the bible was mishandled and is full of mistakes.
I tried my best to stick up for what I believe but I am afraid I failed. I didn’t know how to properly say what I wanted and I sounded like a buffoon.
The trinity was a big deal and it was under his constant scrutiny. OK. Here is the whole deal of my post.
My DH is “full of manners” and invited them over for dinner. Oh boy. We have not set a date yet.
I want to be better prepared for this “next round” can someone help me.
I had a similar experience with a long time (20 plus years) muslim clinet who asked me out to lunch. At lunch he tried to convert me.I very politely rebuffed him but was very , very touched. he was honeslty concerned about my soul and doing what he thought was best to save me from eternal hellfire. He asked me to meet with his Iman who could tell me all the problems with the Bible and how it was interpeted wrong. I told him first we would have luch with my Pastor who would tell him all the problems with the Koran . We ended it at that. Still a client, still friends.

BTW-the biggest concern he had was his perception that i worshipped three gods.

After reading everything, it struck my. there are so many acumptions about the muslim faith here. I wonder what is true and what is anti muslim jargen. It reminds me of when some of my protestant friends tell me what the Catholic faith beleives.

Please be specific with the accusations you’re talking about. I don’t know which alleged “beliefs” you have a hard time seeing Islam accept.

Anyway the difference is that Islam is a cult, like Mormonism. Cults will tell a potential convert whatever they think will sway them to join, and this is why you have to take everything they say with a grain of salt. Read the Quran and Sahih Hadiths yourself without some Muslim apologist sitting there trying to sugarcoat it for you, and make your own conclusions on what Islam teaches…

I was not meening any one thing. I don’t know really anything about the islam faith. Other than it’s non christan. Honestly I’m not all that intrested in it. I don’t live in an area with many muslams. So I haven’t found a need to defend my faith to them…yet. I’m still trying to debate with my protestant friends. I have been told that the Catholic Church is a cult. A bell goes off in my mind “DING, Lets get it on! Tell me Why”

For my own posts I must say that I cited Islamic advice sites on what they themselves say about having non-Moslem friends.

Oh, I’m not implying that anything you’ve said to be untrue. It’s that with my lack of knolage on the topic I must take eveything I hear with a grane of salt. untill I take time to investgate it myself

Don’t take too long:thumbsup:

Once I stop getting smacked around by my protestant friends, I’ll widen my reading. Thoe since I’ve really gotten about my faith and re-learning it. They havent been as quick to tell me how the Catholic faith is wrong.:knight2:
