Hi ,
I am a new convert and I am starting baptizim process ,
Can someone provide list of easy reading textbooks.

Also can someone give me explanation of Sacraments? I am confused specially the concept of Eucharist.

I know simple question but I am confused

Probably the easiest read that explains things in understandable terms is a book called “The Faith of Our Fathers” by James Cardinal Gibbons. It’s not a textbook, but that would be my suggestion.

The most basic definition of a sacrament can best be described using baptism as an example. A sacrament is an outward sign instituted by Jesus which gives grace. The sign is symbolic of what is spiritually happening. Washing of the body in baptism, is the sign of the soul being washed clean from sin.

Baptism- From scripture instituted and commanded by Jesus to “baptize all nations”
Outward sign- water
Gives grace- sins washed away receive the Holy Spirit, receive saving grace (Acts 2:37-38, 1 Peter 3:21)

I would encourage you to talk to the RCIA director in your parish. If you are starting the process, they should be able to provide you with the text they use in their program.

If they don’t use a text, I can recommend going to www.comcenter.com and selecting one from the RCIA section.

Also the USCCB has the US Adult Catechism appropriate for your use. You can purchase it at comcenter.com, the USCCB website, or most any Catholic bookstore.

As suggested above, your RCIA director or parish priest should be able to point you in the right direction.

Another useful book would be the “Radio Replies” and of course the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

If you want to dig deeply into the Eucharist, I highly recommend Fr. Mitch Pacwa’s 5 CD talk entitled “The Eucharist: An Old Testament Foundation for a New Testament Sacrifice”. Even though I am a cradle Catholic, this talk was truly an eye opener for me.

Just remember, no matter how much you learn there will always be more and you can go as deep as you want and never exhaust the riches.

I think the Catechism of the Catholic Church, linked below, is the your best resource. Its section on the Sacraments is excellent. You can also buy a copy for around $10.

You might also look up “A Course in Religion For High School Youth”, by Fr. John Laux. Book II is called “The Mass and the Sacraments”. Though originally intended for high school students, this is an excellent resource for adults as well. I was taught catechism in high school using some of these texts.
