I bought my girls a group of faith dolls. store.faithdolls.com/

They are great. In the group that I got, we had:

Mother Teresa
St Therese
John Paul 2
Child Jesus
Blessed mother
Our Lady of Guadalupe

I think they are good in the way they encourage my girls to have a friendship with the saints and Jesus. I have not seen any negative outcomes from having them.

my reaction when I saw this doll in catalog was entirely emotional, as a mother, grandmother, and catechist. I would not buy it for my grandchildren or for our preschoolers in CCD. I have some innate repulsion toward cartoon and dumbed down versions of Jesus, I do not like the videos we have in our parish library that are animated Saturday-morning cartoon versions of the life and passion of Christ. I think kids can appreciate and understand the truth and the true depiction of things. Of course I would not take a child under 14 to see Passion of the Christ, and I would not take anyone to see it without prior catechesis and discussion, and follow-up discussion.
As I say, this is an emotional, not logical response.

My 3 year old daughter has a little Mary statue (the dash board kind). When she had to have stitches earlier this year she wanted her little Mary and held onto it tightly the whole time she was being worked on. It brought her a lot of comfort and I don’t think it causes her the slightest bit of confusion.

While in Target purchasing The Passion on DVD for my wife and myself, I also purchased the animated Passion for my five year old daughter. She cried during the crucifixtion, and was elated when she saw the resurection. As you said, I could not have shown her the Mel Gibson version. This is exactly why kids need what you refer to as “dumbed down” versions. Although my five year old is not dumb, she is definately not ready for anything like The Passion. And if a Jesus doll does anything to bring her to a closer relationship with Jesus, then great! Perhaps looking at things from a different perspective might change your emotional response. I was really moved when I saw how saddened my daughter was after seeing the animated Jesus die on the cross. It really opened up a door for me to offer some explanations. I even told her how sinning causes Jesus to be crucified again, and again, and again. She really thinks about her choices, even at the age of five.

One last idea I used was at Christmas I found a doll with a heart beat made a white robe for him, glued a gold pipe cleaner that was shaped like a halo on his head, the children loved the baby and I told them I bought the baby with the heart beat to always remind them the love Christ has for them. My grand daughter has adopted this little Jesus has hers so I have to find another for school. She takes him for rides in the stroller and lovingly takes care of him. Thanks for all your (name removed by moderator)ut I appreciate it.🙂

Dear friends

Personally I think that doll is terrible…sorry I just don’t like it. My daughter has the baby Jesus out of our nativity set and carries him around loving him, thing is though she tries to take the baby Jesus out of His crib when the nativity is displayed at Church also!!!

God Bless you and much love and peace to you

Teresa

I agree, that Jesus doll is a bit weird-looking.
Also, not to be shallow or anything, what’s with Our Lady of Guadalupe and the other dolls having blue eyes?
Other than that, I think that its a great idea!

Um, one more thought…what if the family dog found the Jesus doll? Can you imagine?

Here’s a cuter one called Huggy Jesus

🙂 Here’s what my Google search of Jesus doll turned up:

babyjesusdoll.com/ (Jesus as a baby, doll)

trainupachild.com/ (Jesus action figure, I think someone already posted this link, not sure)

com.azteca.net/softsaints/main/shop/dolls.htm ( Jesus dolls and many saint dolls)

preciousinhissight.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PIHS&Product_Code=1&Category_Code=tc (nice version of Jesus) 🙂

mysweetjesus.com/ (scary Jesus doll)

vicalecorporation.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=13 ( Jesus action figure, the talking one says the 10 commandments, warning, not a religious site, may contain offensive items)

DH…You’re funny!
I personally like the doll and I’m going to get one for my “almost born grandchild”…anytime now… I don’t see anything wrong with it and if it can foster a deeper love and trust for Jesus…so be it!
As a Protestant, when I was a little girl, I had a picture of Jesus as a child and I kept it beside me all night long…I know I would have loved to have hugged a soft cuddley(sp) Jesus…it would have helped me through many trying times…
Jesus was my best friend from when I first learned of Him in Sunday School at the age of 3 or 4…because He loved me… from the song Yes Jesus Loves Me… I still sing it when times get tough. :twocents: Annunciata:)
