It appears everyone is mad at Oprah when the real root is Eckhart Tolle. This man has taken parts of Hindu beliefs, parts of Christian beliefs, part of Muslim (Sufi) beliefs, parts of Zen beliefs and is starting his own religion.

Yet, there is no real substance there. It is all done with smoke and mirrors. There is no effort with Eckhart Tolle. He is the cotton candy of spiritual leaders.

Even worse than Tolle is a woman who calls herself Gangaji. Now she is a real con artist. Absolute poppycock.

Whoa, that lady reminds me of the heaven’s gate dude!

My prayer list just got longer…

Oh, I totally agree. My husband’s father’s wife is one such person. She’s lived a less than exemplary life, and she is into all this stuff - I guess because it means she doesn’t have to face up to all of her sins. I am praying for her.

I had a Catholic therapist tell me once that a general, over-all new agist type religion, made up of things drawn from other religions, whatever it is you like, is much more dangerous than one, established faith, even if it’s Buddhism, Islam, etc. His point was that at least in those, there is some acceptance that there IS a truth outside of ourselves. So even though they’re incorrect, they’re not totally leading to the moral relativism that is so dangerous in seemingly “harmless” spiritualities like Tolle’s.

You are so far out of it you have NO idea what you are talking about. True spirituality has NOTHING to do with spiritism. Nothing to do with religion. Nothing remotely to do with New Age, nothing to do with satanism, or Zen, Hindu, Sufi, or Sophie. It has everything to do with being honest with yourself and God. You have no clue what Tolle’s program is about or you wouldn’t have said what you did. This program is NOT anti-Catholic and is based upon everything that God would want you to be. It can make you a better Catholic, and a happier person. It can bring you to wholeness which is what Christ himself calls us to, and scripture and the Gospel compell us to.
You are so far away from the truth on this I wonder from where you come. If I were you, I would recite the entire prayer of St. Michael each day. May God bless you and lead you to the truth.

What is the big difference I said?🤷
The difference is, money is fine if you are responsible, detach from it, and help others such as the poor and needy. The love of money is something different. That means you put it before God and your responsibilities. There is a BIG difference between the two. The former means salvation. The latter could very well mean damnation. Get the picture?

Tolle teaches things such as “happiness” is a state of consciousness and there is no such thing as sin. His teachings are not Scriptural. Tolle (and Oprah) are dangerous. They set forth strange (hinduistic and new age) doctrines.

Beware of wolves in sheep’s clothing!

In the “New Earth” series the concept of sin is never mentioned. Not even the word. The program has nothing to do with religion. It is a great program to help you be a better person, a happier person, a better Catholic or whatever you want to be. I don’t know what you are listening to but it surely isn’t the same thing I am.

Schultzz,

What do you mean by Jesus calling us to “wholeness”?

Well, Oprah has never been Catholic; as far as I know, she grew up Baptist. However, now she has taken up with Eckhart Tolle’s school of meditation, which in some ways resembles Buddhism but doesn’t even declaratively side with that. He’s a popular writer and I think he’s in his 60s. He seems to have invented his own semi-religion which picks and chooses from various types of New Age thinking, the ‘salad bar’ approach… Some of the ‘new thought’ people can get so vague, you don’t know what they’re thinking. Wish they’d just stick to something. If truth changes as you like, it can’t very well be truth, can it? 😊
Wow! I guess the saying, “A little knowledge can be dangerous” is true. In my opinion you have very little. If you listened to the entire program you would see the benefit of a program like this. But obviously you have not listened to it or you wouldn’t have made such foolish comments as you did.
This not rocket science and definitely not another religion. It teaches you to be honest with yourself, and will help you to become healthier emotionally and spiritually. True spirituality does NOT go against religion and has NOTHING to do with religion. You obviously don’t get it or can’t understand it. Fine. Go your own way, but don’t put something down unless you know what it is about. For that is dishonest. God bless you.

We’re talking about Oprah here. You can’t say that Oprah hasn’t denied Christ, i put the link in there. Or just google “Oprah denies Christ”.

We arent talking about anti-catholic here, we’re talking about Anti-Jesus. He never happened and what he did was useless and gainless. That is the idea we are talking about here, that is what we are agains.

We’re talking about Oprah, not tolle. Remember, without Oprah Tolle is nothing.
  1. Oprah denies the idea of absolute truth, and the one true God.
  2. Oprah openly denies Jesus Christ the one true Lord and savior, son of God, who died for all of us.
  3. Oprah promotes the idea that all of us are God ourselves, and idea which she came upon after reading Tolle’s work.

Schultzz,** if this course has opened your eyes to Christ helped you walk closer in his path, then you must agree with the three statements above. I have video proof, given in another post in this thread, that backs up every one of those statements from the mouth of Oprah herself.
Spirituality and religion are very related.THIS is the exact danger of new age teaching that we are all talking about. Spirituality is the VERY CORE of any religious belief. If spirituality is separated from religion then the fundamental beliefs that hold that religion together are viewed relative to the new “spiritual” outlook.

You have fallen for the trap my friend. You say it yourself in your very post,

“the course will help you become healthier emotionally and spiritually”

this is the danger, this new “spiritual growth”.

Now perhaps you happen to be the exception, but many people who read this book feel as if it is nudging them to forget about Jesus and focus solely on themselves. There are a myriad of such reviews on google.

This is dangerous material no matter which way you cut it. If need be, i’ll get the book and tear it apart with the catechism.

Why don’t you distill the teachings of Eckhart Tolle into one or two paragraphs for me? I tried to listen to his talks on YouTube but couldn’t get through them. If he actually has a coherent message, then perhaps you, as his student, will able explain it. I am always willing to learn.

Hey Roman Catholic. I’m not sure what you mean. Are you saying Jim Caviezel said something wrong or that they were upset cause he said something right?
Des

I am not sure of what he said. This fundamentalist web-site had a big problem with him speaking at an evangelical Church period because he was Catholic. He could have been just talking about the weather or his plans for the weekend for all this site cared. The point was that he was Catholic speaking at a “Christian” church. This is a very anti-Catholic site and so they put this on par as if this evangelical church was saying that the reformers wasted their lives.

Nothing that Jim Caviezel did unless you take exception to him speaking at an evangelical Church… Which I do not.

God bless

Please believe that I would not recommend this series of lectures on the “now” if it were in the slightest way against Jesus or the Catholic Church. I am well educated but very much dedicated to my faith. I belong to an Order of the Church and have been professed for many years. I rigorously defend our Pope and love the saints and the Blessed Mother.

Do not go to Utube. The video has been edited to show a jaundiced view of the series. Go to the “New Earth” Site from a search engine. Log in and listen to what Eckhard Tolle says. There are 7 chapters. I don’t agree with Oprah and her views on religion, yet if I had my own tv show and over a billion dollars I could do what I wanted to. I believe that she is searching for a better understanding of her faith, but I certainly do not follow her path.
Instead I feel that this Tolle fellow is Christian and maybe Catholic. I don’t think it matters. He has not said anything that goes against our faith. Yet he has a message that is worthwhile.

This is an excellent point about the New Age. By God’s grace I was saved from these teachings and am now in full communion with the Catholic church. It is true that there is a great difference between the practice of one religion (such as Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism) in geograhpical and cultural isolation from other religions, and the plethora of teachings that Westerners dabble in and call the New Age.

When those who do not know Christ and have not had the opportunity to be exposed to His Light practice the religion they were raised with, they also adhere to the grounded moral teachings that are inherent to those religions. This is very important, because through those moral teachings they have a concept of sin. They have an understanding of God, and his Holiness, even if it is not the fully revealed truth of Christ.

What makes “new age” so very different is the lack of any moral absolutes or grounding, and the definition of God as “love” with no acknowledgement of His Holiness, which would allow them to acknowledge their sin. God is not just love. God is holy. This is what Oprah denies, and this is what “new age” teachers deny.

The catechism says that those who have not had a true opportunity to learn of Christ are judged by the light that they did have. Other religions are considered imperfect bearers of God’s truth, but are not denied by the cathechism as having some truth. Those who sincerely practice other religions because they have not had the opportunity to know Christ are still able to be saved. CS Lewis and Mother Teresa believed this. HOWEVER, this is radically different statement than saying, “all paths lead to God”. In one instance, people are drawn by spiritual hunger to the truth, even when they do not know the gospel, and in the other instance, people reject the holiness of God because it is inconvenient, and reject the moral teachings of all of the religions they study.

It isn’t really love they are gravitating toward in the New Age, though they say it is about love and spirituality. They are gravitating toward power.

843 The Catholic Church recognizes in other religions that search, among shadows and images, for the God who is unknown yet near since he gives life and breath and all things and wants all men to be saved. Thus, the Church considers all goodness and truth found in these religions as "a preparation for the Gospel and given by him who enlightens all men that they may at length have life."332

848 “Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel, to that faith without which it is impossible to please him, the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men.”

You think you know what you are talking about, but you do not, really. I am quite sure that your intentions are good. I appreciate you trying to look out for a “fellow” Catholic, and I believe you are a true follower of Jesus Christ and His true church - The Roman Catholic Church. That said, let me tall you that the Utube videos have been “edited” by someone trying to give a jaundiced opinion of the series. Listen to the actual program through the Oprah Book Club site. I do not agree with the way Oprah has interpreted this series. I think she has gone off the deep end. I do not agree with her ideas.
Perhaps you have proven the three statements you offer. They have nothing to do with the program by Eckhard Tolle. This is Oprah’s view - Not His. An understanding of Spirituality in itself leads to an increase in devotion to whatever you believe. I believe in the Catechism, and the Blessed Mother, and Jesus, and the Magisterium of the Catholic Faith and the Pope.
Your statement about Spirituality lacks credence. If you listen to the entire seven chapters you will see the difference. If you listen to any chapter and find that it goes against your faith, simply stop the process. Most people, I would say about 90% go about their lives not knowing who they really are. They listen to their ego and live in the pain of yesterday’s hurts. They spend much time in future thoughts worrying about every little thing. They go through life wounded spiritually, and morally, and emotionally. How can you be a “light to the world” like this? You cannot give away what you do not have yourself? If I have been “taken in” as you say, fine. I have followed the path of discernment and prayer and have been helped immensely by this program. So I’ll take it and move on. Do I listen to Oprah’s show? No way.
If you don’t love yourself how can you love Jesus? I am not saying that you concentrate solely on yourself or become narcissistic. I am saying become healthy emotionally, and spiritually and you will no doubt go on to serve Jesus and his people in a “whole” some way. God Bless You.

Can you give me a synopis of what he teaches?

Can you give me a synopis of what he teaches?

Not really. It is an unfolding of facts about how we think. It deals with how to clear away the “baggage” of the past - the old “tapes” that play in our mind, the negative messages that we listen to from the past. It shows how to live through stressful events without getting angry or flustered. It shows how to find yourself. Your real self. It frees us from worrying about anything and teaches us how to really put our faith in God - and believe it! And subsequently to let go and let God handle it and NOT take it back. It teaches how to center our life around the present for that is where Jesus is. It opens up the potential for great peace of mind, and indicates how to use creative ideas and energy to accomplish what God gives us to do. It helps us to open the doors to greater emotional and spiritual health. If you are centered in Christ before you take this course, you will be very much in love with Him when you finish. At least that’s what I have gotten from it so far, and I have yet to finish the last chapter.

Schultzz,

What do you mean by Jesus calling us to “wholeness”?
Jesus said, “Be perfect as I My Father in Heaven is perfect.”, or words to that effect. The word “perfect” translated from Aramaic, to Greek, to Latin, to English really means “wholeness”. It does not mean “flawless” even though Jesus was flawless and perfect. So we are being called to wholeness, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. We cannot be perfect but we can strive for the very best that we can be for Jesus. If we are not in very good emotional or spiritual health how can we possibly be Christlike in our example for others? We have a responsibility to become whole. A person who continually engages in sinful behavior cannot become whole. The Eckard program is a good way to learn to become whole. Yet many will avoid it because they think that it is the way of satan or whatever. They couldn’t be farther from the truth. I think it is satan who is leading them away from the truth. But I have said what I believe through the process of prayer and discernment. They will go their way too. God’s blessing on all who read this.

Research **everything **that Tolle teaches. Many times, these New Agers will introduce their deceptive teachings in a subtle and deceptive way so as to draw you into their lies, and then they lower the hammer.

I will pray for you…and Tolle…and Oprah.
