Hum, well I do try. Usually when in trouble with my friends it is not for spelling errors but for my peculiar habit of making up words. Lucifer becomes** Loserfer**. Mean Christians have** Churchianity**, a rotten day become a bad daze, etc, etc…

I try to contain myself here though! LOL 👍

Peace,

Auriel

Lovely. Thank you. Now I must ask, did you invent this quote?

“Whoever looks at a plate of ham and eggs lustfully has already committed breakfast with them in his heart.” ~C. S. Lewis, Letters to an American Lady~

No. LOL I cannot take credit for that one! 🙂

It actually is a C.S. Lewis quote.

Hello Nordar,

Thank you for your response. I will consider your viewpoint. I sense some “righteous indignation” in your post. Are you a Moderator?
**And still you continue “Righteous indignation”? ** Schultzz I quite simply disagree with you, what is so hard to understand about that?

So I apologize. Have I read more into your subtle comment on “adoration of Tolle”? Is that an insult? Please explain.
Twas an upfront comment absotuley no subtleness, nor was it an insult ( you are way too defensive). It was my observation on your adamant defense of Tolle and your believe in what he says; So much so that you take others negative comments about him as a personal insult. That is in my opinion is a kind of adoration, so nope not subtle, I mean what I say and see what I mean, nothing hidden!

Nordar, probably no surprise, but I agree with much of what you’ve said to schultzz. Naturally, schultzz can keep Tolle, having his own free will. No doubt about that. However, others (including WE) will say that is not a wise or prudent thing to do since Tolle is in no position to teach anything to a Catholic, having no faith that is compatible with our faith. (E.g. reincarnation? Ah, no way.)
Your right!😃

What’s worrisome is that I see otherwise good Christians falling for The Secret, the “Course in Miracles”, and now A New Earth.

But the good news is people are catching on. FoxNews ran this article last week:

Is Oprah Starting Her Own Cult?
By Roger Friedman
FoxNews.com
Thank for posting that link. Just strenghthens my belief that both Oprah and Tolle are very dangerous, and I truly do not understand how anyone claiming to be Catholic can believe that Tolle is on the level!

I use to like her. Her money and the attention she needs whenever she does something for someone totally turns me off. Money is the root of all evil, without money, no radio show. Good luck to her.
CORRECTION!! Money is NOT the root of all evil.
Scripture is clear about this.

For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Timothy 6:10:thumbsup:

I mean what I say and see what I mean, nothing hidden!

I mean what I say and see what I mean?

I am not sure that I follow that.

So you disagree with me. Fine. Maybe Oprah has gone off the “deep end”. I don’t know. I do know that I am not jumping in with her. I DO think that Tolle made sense with his “power of now” series. But perhaps I am the only one here who does. I am NOT going to jump off the deep end with him either.
However, his process of self-search has rung a bell with me and has helped me very much. That’s all. Unfortunately, many opinions here seem to represent thought that I was being allured to precepts which go against our Catholic faith. That simply is not true. I still feel that as deluded as you think Tolle is (and it is possible that he is), his process for eliminating distractions from finding your true spiritual self works for me.
Has Oprah become a “nut”? Only time will tell. But she did say the thing that gets her more upset than anything else is people saying things about her which are not true. I think I see your point though in being concerned that many others will buy into the “cult” idea and accept ideas which DO go against our faith. I hope that will not happen but I suppose the danger is there.

Before I purchased his book I found another with a similar name that I really have enjoyed. Ever hear of Meister Eckhart? I consider him a mystic and I found his words profound…and as a former New Ager, probably “safer” for me than Tolle. LOL .
Meister Eckhart is great! I have read all his books! *
The thing is the Church silenced him in his time 🙂 .
The Dominicans are still trying to have him reinstated. *
He and Saint Augustine had it out several times and Saint Augustine won 🙂 . *
Mainly his work smacked of panatheism and it
was dangerous.
*
I am sure that Tolle would have read Meister Eckhart’s works…this is Eckhart…
Where ever the Word is to be heard, it must be heard
* in stillness.** We can not be of greater service to this Word than through** stillness** and silence. There we can hear it and understand it correctly, in that state of unknowing. Where we know nothing, it becomes apparent and reveals itself.*
In the bible…it is that "still small voice"!
The Holy Father spoke of it in his message at Saint Joseph’s Seminary on Saturday…
"There is another aspect
of prayer which we need to remember: silent contemplation. Saint John, for example, tells us that to embrace God’s revelation we must first listen, then respond by proclaiming what we have** heard** and seen (cf. 1 Jn 1:2-3; Dei Verbum, 1). Have we perhaps lost** something** of the art of listening? Do you leave space to hear God’s whisper, calling you forth into goodness? Friends**, do not** be afraid of** silence** or stillness, listen to God, adore him in the Eucharist. Let his word shape your journey as an** unfolding of holiness."Pope Benedict
Tolle has said nothing new in his book,in fact he mentions the
biblical
* call to "die to self " “if you are to live” (paradox) to reject the false self which is** our ego…**the thinking and the feeling prevents us from being still and listening. We are too full of ourselves. *
Saint John of the Cross speaks of surrender of self and nothingness.
Tolle has good points in terms of the ego. The psychologists will not like him for this 🙂 Religion won’t like him because he can pull folks away from the Churches…he has made some good points, but his book will cause many to recenter on self. His work
is too much of a mish mash!!

***Catholic Contemplatives know the way! ***
PS…
*Mister Eckhart is what happened to Matthew Fox the Dominican that the Church silenced not too long ago 🙂 . Creation Spirituality came out of Matthew Fox’s work on Meister Eukhart. They all go too far and fall off the cliff 🙂 . *
It is good to see God in everything and even in ourselves and others but He is Trancendant and He is Immanant. The two go together. Jesus Christ shows us the way.
***The Blessed Eucharist **is the center of the Church because **Christ does not want this to happen to us  **! *
*The great *Saints and Mystics have always told us that God lies beyond our thoughts and our feelings about Him! Our egos! They must settle down so we can hear God speak to us in our deepest heart..
Some are stuck in their thoughts…some are stuck in their feelings. Some in both!
Spirituality is awareness of this and in listening prayer, found
in stillness
as our Holy Father instructed us.
*This is **also *why spending silent time in front of the Blessed Eucharist is of importance again.
.

I’ve read some of Meister Ekhart. From what I’ve read, I don’t see anything heretical about him. This is just my educated guess, but perhaps Meister Ekhart’s teachings were misunderrstood by the authorities. In Eastern Christianity, there is a strong emphasis on deification as the end of man–that is, man becoming like God, or, more according to the sense, man’s energies becoming aligned with the energies of God. Perhaps Ekhart (using Pseudo-Dionysius and other early Christian sources) was leaning this way.

Meister Ekhart said " man becomes like God but **God does not become like man! **Big difference 🙂 !! Folks mess this up! Once we believe that God is speaking to us directly and we do not listen to the Catholic Church we get into trouble! God affirms the truths that we already have within our deepest hearts.

Catherine S, re matthew fox

Per the e-letter of Karl Keating, March 8 2005:

“Fr. Matthew Fox taught pantheism and eventually was expelled from the Dominicans. He joined the Episcopal Church in 1994.”

Um, what about that whole deal when God BECAME a man roughly 2008 years ago? 😉

I am aware of this! Thank you Catharina! I think you will find that I mentioned this is my post 🙂 !

*That is the blessing…when we remain centered on Jesus Christ…no one will be able to fool us with **their particular thoughts **or **feelings about God. ***And Holy Mother Church keeps us all safe 🙂 !

My point, not fully expressed, is that the Church silenced him for a period of one year. When he refused to change his ways, the Dominicans expelled him. In the end, he silenced himself permanently as a Catholic theolgian by choosing to become Episcopalian.

*I am aware of this Catharina. He had a year to think about it, change his ways or leave 🙂 . He left. *

I think the problem some are having is that your initial post is very confusing It is rather hard to understand just exactly what you are saying, or where you are coming from. You start out by saying Meister Eckhart is great and the Church silenced him, as if The Church did something really wrong.🤷
