Yes, she was not a Catholic, so her conversations with the pastors were not confidential and she never once admitted her sin, and denied it when asked by her husband and by her pastors. Her journal showed her only remorse was that her sin was “found out”, not that she was sorry about it. Just shocked that people told her husband. And trying to figure out who betrayed her. Her husband loved and forgave her and is now just concerned for her as anyone who’d be for a loved one. (I think he’s hopeful that the sickness was allowed for her purification so that she’s not suffering anymore.)

My personal thinking on this reflects some of the readings from the Saints. Redemptive suffering. Our suffering, while still on earth is much more efficacious than in purgatory, and certainly less painful. Some, especially the saints, ask that any redemptive suffering be done to them while on earth rather than in purgatory. This type of suffering should not be viewed as “punishment” by anyone, as we have for if we have asked, we have been forgiven.

Rather, redemptive suffering helps to remove the residual stain of sin that must be cleansed prior to reaming in the company of Heaven forever. I suspect anyone who is dying of cancer, in the end, will repent, and hopefully even confess. My heart goes out to your friend and his wife.

I thought that some regions of my country were not environmentally friendly.
Since Soviet times there has been heavy metalurgy. Now there are more оncology, even among children happens.

The same can be confirmed about the region where there was an explosion of the nuclear power plant, the consequences of which even affected the health of children whose parents lived in the area.
Sometimes, the one who is more sinful, the healthy and the one who is less sinful-he falls ill with malignant tumors.

Another example, a neighbor who lives through one door near me.
Recently, I spoke with him, and today I found out that he is dying of cancer.
Neighbors won’t recognize him anymore. He has the cancer of the bowel, and most likely already metastasized, for he dried up and is dying.
The last time I saw him , he looked at me with some kind of sadness. He said he had health problems. He was (and still is) not so old.
But, for example, - the tiler and the plumber , who used to work in my house are two alcoholics about 65-67years old, (probably elder than this guy, I am not sure)drinking vodka almoust every day, I think- smoke about 2 packs of cigarettes a day, and feel ok. And my neighbor dies and seems younger than them. I mean, no one knows that his awaits.
A person can pray and ask God’s mercy, but about the more/less guilts we will find answers to many questions only in eternity.
