Common’ folks. Some of our threads are starting to get slightly silly, such as asking how many people travel to attend a TLM. That’s none of our business. Nor is it our business how many colors of the scapular people own, nor “guess what my parish priest messed up this week.”

Being that it’s the beginning of the Christmas Season, there are many beautiful Christmas traditions from Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Eastern world. There are also many theological statements about Christmas, the Incarnation, the Virgin birth and even about the Magi. Of course we can always discuss some of the iconography used at Christmas by the 23 Catholic Churches.

In the spirit of Christmas and as a gift to your moderator, let’s lift up the cognitive level of our posts.

In case I don’t have the time to say it before then, I wish you and your loved ones a Blessed Christmas and a New Year protected from all evil and filled with many graces.

You forgot the post about diapers and the one where it is alleged Jesus was just a magician, lol.
Merry Christmas to you and yours. May God bless you always.

Being a mod is a thankless job. You have to keep certain things toned down, without dampening enthusiasm or new ideas. CAF is a well moderated forum.

 seriously? Are we supposed to start reading the minds of moderators as to what is appropriate or not silly to ask or not? Or is this your opinion and what you want to see/hear? (which you are allowed to share, or at least, I’d think you should be allowed to share.)

I thought this was a place of asking and sharing. I don’t know the particular thread you are speaking of and didn’t participate in it, but … really? *Are you actually serious? *What if someone said the same about your thread here? That it was “silly”? (I’m not by the way. And I mean no disrespect either as I know mods do a lot of work to keep things running.) Why is it ok that you have what you want, and not ok for someone wanting and wondering if someone would share with them if they travel to the TLM? If you’d ask me, I’d say there was nothing silly about that question at all… but that is just me.

Well, if it’s a note FOR your (our) moderator, have a Merry Christmas and Happy 2016. 🙂

Thank you Tom. Wishing you & your family a Blessed Christmas & a Holy, Happy & Healthy New Year. God bless.

Did he just call us “common folks”?
I am pretty sure that some of us are not so common and actually have the distinction of letters following our name.😉

I sincerely wish the best to you and everyone at CAF. The sad reality of being a moderator on another message board (not here), is I have been in a number of meetings with management where we discuss what to do about the wide spectrum of posts. Many are nice or nice and a little silly, but too many range from slightly to very offensive, personal attacks and a lot of other things that right manners and civility, much less a sense of decorum, dictate I should not mention.

The cognitive abilities of some are not the issue. Very creative ways to abuse the rules, and others, including members of our staff, are common. One very large company in our industry simply took down their message boards. When we got actual mail and personal phone calls in the past, the level of respect and appropriate behavior/intent was there. With the anonymous internet, we have little recourse.

Religion is a subject that is due reverence and respect but is commonly abused on our boards. Minding our business was and is the right way, but with the rise of twitter - for example - everything and anything can be “tweeted,” including things that have led to people losing their jobs.

Self-control, and I ask forgiveness for my own lapses, is the issue. I just want to relate what I’ve experienced for a long time. I do not want to leave the impression that I know more than any moderator at CAF.

Warm Regards -

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Ed West

Merry Christmas to all apologists, moderators, and other staff at Catholic Answers. I very much appreciate the ability to ask a question and know I’ll get an orthodox answer and also to have a website where I can have a reasonable expectation not to run into profanity or anything similar.

On most threads, this is often a very charged question. The thread quickly degenerates into a “which form of the mass is better”. No one explicitly says this because it is against forum rules but is often heavily implied.

I would agree with you if CAF were only for Catholics. But it is open to anybody, with/without faith, with/without sense, with/without animosity, with/without sensitivity, and of course I could go on. Since any thing that qualifies as human has access, then it is up for any kind of thought possible and impossible. What we have is limitation without limitation.

I do feel tho that there is a line drawn in the sand … respect.
