It is my greatest desire to become a nun and I have just begun to discern whether it is God’s will for me sometime in the future.

Anyway… I have a business background and have all these ideas pop into my mind of ways to start a self sustaining foundation that could possibly fund many different causes. Everywhere I go ideas come to me of organizations that could help people or ways to assist certain faith based educational groups etc. These ideas fill me with excitement and happiness.

I realize most ventures require money to get started. I may even be able to help with that aspect in a large way.

How open do you think an existing religious order would be to trying out some of these ideas, if they were promising and sound ideas of course? I would like to use the model where we would get a venture going and established and then give to the people. In the way our local Sisters of St. Joesph started our catholic education system, one of our hospitals and much more. I have a huge amount of respect for the accomplishments of these ladies through the grace of God.

I am meeting with a priest next month and I plan on bringing up my desire to enter the religious life. I was thinking of bring him a business plan or two? 😃 What do you think? I have known him for years.

There are several solid religious orders and orders that are emerging who are always looking for ways for their community be self-supportive. If it was something that was Christian based and was welcomed by the Catholic Church (such as a Catholic printing press, or a Rosary making business), it would most likely be welcomed by the community as an idea. Of course, you would have to have a good way of making the idea into a productive business in a frugal way since no communities have stores of money. All of them ask for donations for convent additions and such. If you had a good idea for a fundraiser, that would be helpful. 😃

Praying for you!

May God Bless You! I too came from a business background and have been a Sister since 2000. Please read some of our story on the “Meet and Greet” page for today. We are forming a new community of Catholic religious Sisters in the Archdiocese of Chicago. We plan to catechize and evangelize by using the Sacred Fine Arts. We will be Monastic/Active and live the Augustinian Rule. We will wear habits and veils. We will use the arts be it music, writing, fine arts, architecture, culinary arts to proclaim and defend our faith. We hope many courageous women will come to join us. We have no age limit and we will accept women with some health problems. Please talk to us! I am Sister Kathleen Marie and you can write to us or call or email.

Hi Sister Kathleen Marie, May God bless your new community, I do find many of the qualities quite attractive. Do you have happen to have a website or some additional information about your ministry? I will pray for you and your new community!

I think there are plenty of orders who would be interested in a sister with business acumen.

For example, the orders that run hospitals are major business enterprises, in addition to their charitable missions. I’m sure there would be plenty of roles for someone like you.

God Bless
