I have been thinking about my options for when I finally get my certification as a Nursing Assistant (please pray that the next time is it; I am studying HARD!). I am friends with a seminarian in the Brooklyn/Queens area (email friends). When I told him about my Nursing Assistant diploma, he told me about the Little Sisters of the Poor and that they are always looking for new CNA’s. He told me to contact them when I get my certification (I haven’t done it on my own accord because I am not certified yet) and see about living in one of their residence rooms while earning as a CNA. When I looked up the residence homes, I found out that the Mobile, AL residence was closest to me, and funnily enough, the residence home was called Sacred Heart! I have a very strong year long devotion to the Sacred Heart. I really want to use the mystery for my religious name:

Sr. Mary (fill in the blank) of the Sacred Heart

So to see that, it was like a very cool sign. Well, that was a few months ago (we talked about it when I was still in school for CNA), and I’ve kind of forgotten about it, but then I got an email from Sr. Constance of the Baltimore Little Sisters of the Poor telling me the same thing. It’s kind of a sign for me that this is where I’m supposed to work, and it might be the reason I’ve been unsuccessful finding a job here so far. You just never know until you try it, right?

So, I am really thinking about it again, and trying to establish a relationship with Sr. Constance. Since she is the Vocations Director for Baltimore, she would have to help me get started in Mobile because she is the Vocation Director for the province (Mobile is in the Baltimore province).

I don’t think I am called to join them as a Sister, but just learn from them and work for them. I still feel very called to the Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus (which is also a possibility for me to get a job in one of their provinces) and I received a sign from them, too. I wrote about it already, but I just wanted to reiterate that I prayed about it and wanted to know where God was sending me, and I got a Christmas card 2 days later saying, “Is God gently calling you to a religious vocation?” I am emailing and talking on the phone to Sr. M. Immaculata about discernment and we are trying to arrange a visit for me to visit them.

I can’t believe how much God is showing me! I don’t even expect some of the signs that He sends but He understands how open I am to receiving Him and wherever He sends me. I try to tell Him daily, “Here I am, Lord. I come to do Your will.” That’s why it was so beautiful to hear the story of Samuel and Eli on Sunday! It really opened my eyes again to the beauty of the call and how, if we are truly open to doing God’s will, that He will keep showing us where He wants us.

So, I am asking for your prayers that I am doing God’s will. I am going to meet my spiritual director hopefully this week, and ask him what steps I should take.

Just a reminder for those who are discerning:

If you are truly open to God, amazing things can happen! I’m living proof! And I’m no great saint, either, although I am striving daily for sainthood by living humility, obedience, and most importantly, chastity.

God bless all of you!!! :crossrc:
