Objection #2
1Corinthians3:13-15 This text is talking about the evangelistic efforts of men to convert the lost.In that effort, some who convert will defect from the faith later. These defectors would be characterized as wood, hay, or straw. Their lack of faithfulness proved that their life had not been built well enough on the foundation of Christ. So,the expression in verse 15, "yet as so through fire"is a reference to the one who taught the defector, not a reference to the defector himself. The expression means that if this teacher of the gospel teaches in a weak way that does not strongly stabalize converts, he will be saved, but by the skin of his teeth! It is not saying that he will go suffer in purgatory and then be saved. In fact, there is no reference here at all to anything vaguely representing temporary punishment.
