I think one of the biggest questions for a Catholic who votes is which party do you vote for? Do you vote for the democrats who allow the killing of children in the womb, or do you vote for the republicans who will let the child starve outside the womb?

Neither are acceptable however I think you need to think of what’s important to you and make a list of each parties pros and cons. ( although politicians are really good at lying so try not to vote on policy and law alone)

In my experience, it is far more nuanced than that.

I follow the USCCB’s guide “Forming Consciences For Faithful Citizenship”

republicans who will let the child starve outside the womb?
Republicans don’t let children starve outside womb. Republicans just support private charity (not public welfare) as mechanism to feed starving children because it’s more effective and can feed more children with same $

I’m going to just sit back and watch this one.

What exactly makes you think that republicans would let children starve? I’m curious if it is anything in particular that you read or heard about because I have never come across a republican who wanted to completely do away with safety nets for people in need. That being said, abortion is outright murder, so I would personally have a hard time voting democrat since that is such a big part of their platform and that stance is clear cut whereas the letting children in need starve isn’t so clear cut/factual.

I agree. The government has too much “overhead” and waste to effectively deal with hunger. Yes, there needs to be a safety net, but it shouldn’t take away any incentive to get off the government dole.

The “Thomas More” syndrome. I don’t believe it’s our duty to make a choice when the system fails to produce qualified candidates. It is our duty to leave this world not having made it easier for him to implement intrinsic evil.

Good point, who gives more to charity? Conservatives or Liberals? Republicans or Democrats? Anyway, I’m all for whatever the government or private charity can do but I do think governmental aid can be more subject to red tape, fraud and abuse. It seems there are examples of people who get hooked on governmental aid for generations.

That said, I don’t think Republicans ignore the social net even under the government. That’s a bit of a stereotype

I register Democrat and vote Republican.

In all seriousness, my vote changes, and I often just don’t bother with the candidates and go straight to the laws.

I honestly have no clue but did quick search. 6 of top 10 donating States are Republican. Conservatives overall donate more despite on average making 7% less than liberals. And 91% religious donate v 66% who aren’t religious which probably explains why conservatives donate more (more religious among them than liberals, overall)

Correct, I meant more that they’d prefer private charity in ideal world.

The problem is that there is no bipartisanship anymore…The other side that everyone says is the Devil is probably not as much of a Devil as people make it out to be…And vice versa…We get into all these debates about which is the better party, and there is a lot of political grandstanding going on…Meanwhile, it doesn’t help all those starving right here in this country RIGHT NOW…Or the ones who can’t afford decent health care…At the same time, the opioid drug crisis and suicide rates are out of control, which is leading to a lower life expectancy among people…We throw away more food in this country, while people still starve for no reason…We have not dealt with mental health issues the way we should…Common sense ideas are negated because politicians don’t want to offend anyone…Politicians tend to fight the other guy’s plans to fix things because they’re the other guys’ plans, and really don’t care if the plans have any merit…If it’s a Democratic plan, the Republicans want nothing to do with it…If it’s a Republican plan, the Dems say no automatically…And really, despite anything you could say about him, the late Sen. John McCain at least tried to reach across the aisle once in a while…Now there’s so much gridlock and distraction that NOTHING worthwhile gets done and real progress barely gets made, and that’s if they can sneak the good bills by the President somehow and get him to sign them…He may well have a good heart and I can’t be a judge of the man’s innermost heart, but…Wouldn’t it be nice if politicians just started working together on occasion for the common good like in the old days??? People had their differences but they didn’t let their anger get in the way of their friendships…Aren’t we told not to let the sun go down on our anger? And yet, you see it all the time on the political shows, at press conferences and in the online comment sections…This division and polarity has done nothing to help the ones who really need it…And we’ve lost a little inspiration in this country…No one aspires us to greatness…No one is that bold! In the past, we had people like John Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., Maya Angelou and even Ronald Reagan to share inspirational words of wisdom…Even if you didn’t like President Obama, you have to admit he was a decent man who had dinner with his family every night and promoted the values of kindness and generosity, even if you disagreed with his policies…A man of honor and integrity that at least deserved respect, as all humans do, as brothers and sisters, children of God…When Jesus spoke of those in need, he did not specify that one group was more worthy than another to receive aid in distress either…The Good Samaritan parable is one we should all keep in mind…If we are Republican, should we not help our fellow Democrats in distress? If we are Democrat, do we turn away when a Republican needs our help? Matt. 25:40 states that whatever we do for the least among us, we have done it unto Him…If we would stop playing the politics game once in a while, we might actually get some things done for the good of our neighbors, our nations and beyond that, the world!

I’m unaffiliated. I support particular issues and individuals not party platforms.

(And with that… I’ll be over here munching on popcorn from the sidelines…)

do you vote for the republicans who will let the child starve outside the womb?
Where did you get the idea that Republicans want to let children starve?

I’m Non-Partisan and don’t have any dog in this fight, but its really not that useful to make up stuff.
