A practical question for Mormons

Unless you have another “website” in mind, I don’t see that much difference. The only difference I see is total disregard by the Catholic Church for the psychological and emotional wellbeing of the mother; whereas the LDS Church respects the emotional needs of the mother as well as her physical wellbeing. Show me what else is the difference.

I don’t think I can show you anything because you don’t seem to want to do anything except argue. If you can’t see (or have the patience to carefully read) what has already been put right in front of you then who can show you anything more? I’m not trying to be mean, I just don’t have any desire to argue with you, Zerinus. I pray for you. Thats all.

Sorry to disappoint, but my mind was made up long ago.
Not so. You did change your mind again at an instant, like I said you would.
According to Catholic teaching, abortion is an objective evil. I don’t think the Church (or anyone else, for that matter) can condone the direct killing of an innocent human being.
Well, neither does the LDS Church. I thought I gave you a quote.
The essential (huge) difference between Catholic and LDS teaching is the LDS strongly condemn abortion as if it were an objective evil then turn around and provide exceptions.
Name the exceptions. Was this the exception: “when the life or health of the mother is judged by competent medical authority to be in serious jeopardy”? Or was this the exception: “when the fetus is known by competent medical authority to have severe defects that will not allow the baby to survive beyond birth”?
If you have the time, you might check out the writings on abortion by the Early Church Fathers. I don’t think they left any room for exceptions. You once told me you found them all to be reliable.
I didn’t think that the ECFs had a lot to say about abortion. At least, I hadn’t come across much. In any case, in those days none of the medical advances that have been made today existed. The two situations are not comparable. Whatever was done in those days would have been a botched job, and extremely hazardous to the health of the mother.

I am waiting for you to change your mind now pretty quick. How long do I have to wait?

zerinus
zerinus, please don’t talk to me this way again, it’s very rude. I enjoy listening to your ideas, asking you questions and answering yours but you need to be respectful of posters who are here to learn.

Sorry Good Daughter. I don’t mean to be rude to you. You are a good daughter! 🙂 So I will be nice to you from now on! 👍

zerinus, I’m sorry but alot of your post doesn’t make sense. I’m thinking about starting a new thread on “the LDS and abortion” in hopes of dialoguing with more posters who have knowledge of Mormonism. Thank you for your time and please be kind to others. (1Cor 13:1)

Thanks, that means alot to me. I promise to always be nice to you too. By all means, let’s still challenge each other, but we’ll do it with respect, okay?

God bless you.

The LDS position can be very simply stated. It is the same as the quote I geve you earlier. There isn’t really a lot more to add to that.

God has given us all free choice. Some would and some wouldn’t. But I do believe that most would serve coffee, tea and alcohol. It would be hard not to and still stay in business. Also, what would be the point in depraving people their free choice. Now I would draw the line on porn etc. No need to offer that free choice.
although porn is a free choice offered in Marriot Hotels.

Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut.

My own position on this is quite simple. Much would depend with the influence that the Marriot family has in the decision making process. In the age of markets and globalization, the Marriot family may not have control of such decision making. And if they do, then of course, they will need to understand the choices that they are making. However, I am not a judge of people’s intention. But it can be brought out to them. I might also add, that those in the decision making process may not be active Mormons in the lds church.
