"Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter." (Proverbs 24:11)
Reflection:
Many think that another person’s abortion, though wrong, is none of their business. But whenever someone’s choice destroys someone else’s life, that’s everyone’s business. God makes it our business by commanding us to rescue those in danger. God makes it our business because he entrusts us to the care of one another. Ours is the business of love.
Prayer: Lord, I pray today for those being led to slaughter. They are my brothers and sisters. Protect them, and strengthen me to intervene for them. Amen!

"You shall not murder" (Exodus 20:13).
Reflection:
God’s own finger wrote in stone the commandments he gave to Moses, and through Moses to us. “You shall not murder” refers to the deliberate act of taking an innocent human life, and is forever prohibited precisely because all life belongs to God, and God is life itself.
Prayer: Lord, we need your commandments. Your word is a light to our path, and sets the clear boundaries for our human community. Your prohibition on murder was literally written in stone and is as unchangeable as you are. Give all your people the gift of obedience. Amen.

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted" – Matthew 5:4
Reflection: We are blessed, indeed, if we mourn over our sins, and over the evils in the world, like the daily killing of children by abortion. When is the last time we shed tears over the shedding of blood, and wept for the lives of these babies killed and moms and dads wounded? Let us pray for the gift of those tears!
Prayer:
Lord, give me a broken heart over abortion. Give me the grace to do my part in ending this evil. And give me comfort, as you bring justice to the earth. Amen.

“If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely, but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allow. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye…” Exodus 21: 22-25.
Reflection: The phrase, “no serious injury” applies equally to mother and child. According to Hebrew scholar Dr. Gleason Archer, “There is no second class status attached to the fetus under this rule. The fetus is just as valuable as the mother.”
Prayer: Lord, as you care for every one of your children, may we do likewise. Amen.

“Hannah wept much and prayed to the Lord… 'Remember me, and not forget your servant but giver her a son…” 1 Sam. 1:10-11.
Reflection: The people of the Old Testament regarded barrenness as a curse, a source of great shame and sorrow. Fertility, on the other hand, was a blessing and a sign of God’s favor.
~ Many people who suffer from infertility are very close and faithful to God. The attitude of a culture [with killing by abortion, which is always painful to the child & everyone], however, increases their anguish even more.
Prayer: Lord, may we again see children as a blessing. Give that blessing to all who long for a child. Amen.

“{W}ith glory and honor You crowned [humanity] power over the works of Your hands.” Psalm 8:5-7.
**Reflection:**Here is the key in the battle for life. Not only did God make us, but He values us, crowning us with stewardship over the rest of creation.
~ The Bible tells s of a God who is madly in love with us, so much so that He became one of us and even died for us while we were still offending Him.
Prayer: Lord, we are amazed at Your love for us. May we learn from it and imitate it, as we love and protect one another [no matter how tiny or seemingly unimportant]. Amen.

“{C}an a mother forget her baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” - Isaiah 49:15
Reflection: In assuring His people of His unfailing love for them, God seeks an extreme example to make His point: He speaks of the bond between a mother and the child of her womb. He declares that the breaking of that bond is practically unthinkable to Him.
Prayer: Lord, You have established the bond between mother and child and used it as an example of the most faithful commitment. Strengthen all mothers and protect all their children. Amen.

“Repent and believe in the Gospel” (Mark 1:15).
Reflection: At the start of Lent, we receive the ashes that remind us of the power of sin and death, which return us to dust. Yet we wear the ashes in the form of a cross, professing that Christ has conquered death and restored life. We repent of sin, and prepare to renew the vows of our baptism at Easter. Lent prepares us to share the victory of Life and to live as the People of Life!
Prayer: Father, I repent of all my sins. Turn me away from death, and toward life, that I may find freedom in Jesus the Lord. Amen.
