Loving God,

We lift up in prayer the intentions for all the people of Haiti who have been devastated by this disaster and ask for your mercy and blessings on those who survived. We also pray for the repose of the soul of all the dear people who died in this tragedy, and ask for your mercy and comfort for their souls as they join you in your heavenly home. We also pray that the people of the world will join together to provide resources, help, and support as the people of Haiti begin the very difficult work of rescue, rebuilding, and stabilizing the situation. May the people of the world be most generous during this time of need, in prayer, financial resources, and time & talent.

We pray in the name of your beloved son Jesus, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.

Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

A Novena Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Sacred Heart of Jesus, we know that there is but one thing impossible to You: to be without pity for those who are in suffering or distress. Look down on us, we beg of You and grant us the grace which we humbly and earnestly implore, through the Immaculate Heart of Your most sorrowful Mother to whom You confided us as her children, and whose prayers are all powerful with You. Amen.

Looking at the news today, it appears as though Port Au Prince needs to be closed and everyone there evacuated to another part of the island. I don’t know whethere that is even possible or not but the help is too late for those who are trapped. They have either died or will die in the next 48 hours.

The wounded are in desperate need of treatment. Once the crushed body parts or broken bones are ignored, the only recourse is amputation. And decomposing bodies spread more disease – medieval in nature: dysentery, plague.

The only real solution appears to be move several hundred thousand people but I haven’t heard anyone even talking about that. Looking for some real news, not pictures of children being pulled from wrecked buildings.

I don’t think we are prepared for this kind of disaster and the kind of solutions seem beyond our means as well.

Or am I panicking here?

Help us dear Mother.
