A priest is the only one who can excorcise demons from a human body

I saw a documentary about excorcism and the Protestants were contacting priests to help them excorcise demons from humans. Protestant pastors realize they do not have the power to actually do this. The Catholic priest is the only one. So why then if power was given to our priests as stated in the Bible such authority, why do non-Catholics STILL not believe in the Catholic chuch?

In Rome there is a class at the Vatican that priests take for excorcism now. I love the priests, they are the umbilical cord to God.

Anyone can drive off a demon if they ask God and Jesus to do it, that’s who has the power, not just men with titles. I’ve done it a few times.
 
Fr. Gabriele Amorth, in his book, *An Exorcist Tells His Story, *credits non-Catholics with helping equip him for his ministry. Jesus himself allows “outsiders” to do this ministry in Mk. 9:38-40:

John said to him, “Teacher, we saw a man casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him; for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon after to speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is for us.
 
I actually know a priest who has had people refered to him by Protestant pastors. One who sent a person was a Southern Baptist. According to the woman, her pastor said that in this matter, priests were like marines: better trained and better equiped to deal with the nastiest fights. Anyway, I think that some protestant denominations have inadvertantly removed so much spirituality that when they are faced with a spiritual threat that manifests itself physically, they are at a loss.

Anyone can drive out a deamon, not everyone is ready for the process or the possible aftermath.

Well said. And true. A lot of Baptists reject “spiritual” phenomena. Curiously, Pentecostals, who accept the charism of speaking in tongues also perform exorcisms – effectively. A Baptist generally flat-out rejects speaking in tongues as part of a dispensation whose day has passed.

Correct. I think that the reason that Pentecostals have success is that they are ready for the aftermath and the process. No Pentecostal that I have ever met underestimates the devil. They know that they must be ready spiritually for the fight. They know that once they start, they become the target.

There’s no special process, you just cry out to Jesus and God for help, sometimes it leaves immediately, sometimes it takes a while. Either way it only gets better since the demon is already there bothering you.

There are a few cases where Priests were called upon. Here

Then the Exorcism of Nicola Aubrey, the devil even mocked an attempt to remove him with hymns.

Probably depends on how strong the demonic influence is within the possessed person, but for the hardened cases it seems a Catholic Exorcism is the only way to remove Satan and his cohorts. (Prayer and fasting etc; as Jesus said)

I my self and a pentacostal, I have spoken in tounges and have been baptisted with the holy spirit. I have enounters direct spiritual attacks on my self and have, through the power of jesus christ ALONE, drove them out of my room. I have never excorsied someone, that requires a level of spiritual maturity have not attained. But i do believe that all christians have the power to drive demons, but many do not know how to handle them. Ill tell you from personally experience that if you are not absolutly sure in your convictions and faithfull that God has forgivin you of all your sins, the demon or devil will use it against you. It will mess with you mind and cause a fear that words cannot explain. It requires maturity and experience to do so.

I don’t think it’s quite as easy as you imply.

Even the disciples could not drive out some demons.

It’s not a pleasant thing anyway once a demon is there, but it requires nothing more special than pleading to God for help, and being sincere about repenting of patterns of sin, like ending an ongoing affair if you are married.

Someone praying over you may give you support and strength, but you still have to have your own faith.

Amen, Amen!! You are so very correct about everything you have said. It is one reason that the Church will not allow just any old priest to be an exorcist! The devil plays for keeps and he goes for the kill! It is through the power of Christ but you cannot have doubts, you cannot faulter.

So when a Pentacostal exhibits glossolalia (real or feigned), what does the Baptist think is happening?

Remember that Demons don’t need exorcosing unless they have a reason to be there in the first place. if you drive out one and they had a reason to be there, like if they were INVITED, they will just come back with more. People who are not prepared and don’t know what they are messing with should stay out of it.
 
Yes, that’s the same reason I don’t try to fix my own car. I leave it to the pros. 👍

My Mechanic can exorcise demons. But you wouldn’t believe what he charges.

As always, an insightful post that is true. Fr. Amorth, I believe, has worked with many protestant ministers, including Bob Larson. In his work he embraces protestant ministers who do this and has said he would work with them if given the chance.

I would ask what the Jewish faith teaches on possession, but I know better. How about what are the various opinions on posession held by Jewish Scholars?
