A priest is the only one who can excorcise demons from a human body

Yes, I do know. And I know that lay people can be wrong too. Don’t you? What does the Vatican say about these things? If Father Amorth is wrong and he publicly says that protestants doing it is okay, then why doesn’t the Vatican stop him? Lack of training on the part of protestants doesn’t mean they are incapable because of authority/power issues. It’s simply lack of training.

I’ve never asked a priest to perform one and don’t intend to. I do fine without one. No, it doesn’t sound like me. I have more to do with my time than pitting people against people. My intention is learning, understanding and mutual spiritual progression. It’s rather petty to waste my time trying to destroy Catholics. I seek to uplift them and see them progress also.

I love Catholics, protestants, Buddhists, Hindus, atheists and whatever other label you can put on people. My fight is with darkness and Satanism. My comrades are those who fight darkness with me, whoever they may be. That’s why I would work with anyone from any religion who fights darkness. I suggest you do the same.

You neither know me nor have the faintest clue about my intentions. You have no right to judge me.

Good for you. Your profile says you are a Christian Mystic… Your fight should actually be researching and finding out about Christ and how He started the Catholic faith.
Father Amorth is wrong…I talked to two priests today and they told me that was absurd…and if the Vatican were to be involved in one minor doing of this nature, they’d be awfully busy, don’t you think? They have other things to worry about.
BTW, Christ will judge you Christian Mystic, not me.

My fight is against darkness, wherever it is found. It could be in religions, people, places, etc. Yes, I consider myself a Christian mystic. I have many in my company, St. John of the Cross. St. Theresa of Avila, etc. Mysticism is older than Christianity the religion. The early Christian mystics sought fellowship with the Divine through direct experience. I do the same.

Father Amorth is the Chief Exorcist of your church. I would think it was a large matter if he was teaching something against the Vatican’s wishes. I would think it would be a grave error on his part and the Vatican would silence him on this issue. It’s not a minor issue.

I don’t worry about the judgement of Christ. He is just and knows my heart. The Christ that I know is full of love and compassion and asked us to forgive our enemies. I would expect that even if I wasn’t in his good graces that he would forgive me.

I’m not interested in your platitudes or judgements or narrow philosophy. You will believe what you want no matter what evidence is presented to you. Your actions speak of the lack of an open mind. I hope that someday you will find freedom of thought while remaining a good Catholic.

Peace…

It’s the best label I could put on myself. It’s an honest assessment of my approach to Christianity.

By the way, you didn’t respond to my last post part about Father Amorth being silenced by the Vatican. Any response to that?(which is on topic)

Was he silenced by the Vatican because he states that other than a priest can excorcise demons? Or was it for something else? Whatever the Vatican says and does is right by me.:gopray2:

No, no. He wasn’t silenced. I was asking a question from an earlier post. Since Amorth is the Chief Exorcist and he is saying that protestants can exorcise demons, then wouldn’t that be important enough that the Vatican would silence him? It’s a big issue if if comes from the chief himself.

I will explore this man further and get back to you. No use in answering you if I do not do this.

Fr. Amorth has not been silenced by the Vatican. The comment in his book about working with Pentecostals on exorcisms was in reference to the early days of his ministry when the function of Exorcist had fallen into disuse. Amorth referred to consulting with those who at that time were actively engaged in this ministry.

He seems to have become a one-man encyclopedia on the subject since then, and now, I am sure, people come to HIM for advice.

Still, I think it was Amorth who said that the Exorcist for the Paris Archdiocese reported something to the effect of, “I have been the Exorcist here for 25 years and haven’t seen any action yet.”

I have researched Father Amorth and this is what he has to say about being able to become an excorcism, saying only a PRIEST can excorcise demons. I knew it was false that Father Amorth never said a Protestant can do the same…this is what he says:
“150 priests from 5 continents, men appointed by their BISHOPS in accordance with the RULES OF CANON LAW, which require that they be men of prayer, knowledge, and good reputation, and in some way the cream of the CLERGY—ask to take part in a special audience with the pope.
When a priest is appointed BISHOP, he is faced with an article in the code of CANON LAW which gives him absolute authority to appoint excorcists within the Catholic church.”

Furthermore, he is said to have performed 50,000 excorcisms over the years, and he never said “I haven’t seen anything yet”. That was taken out of context from what he was saying about something else.

“I haven’t seen anything yet” was a reported quote from the Exorcist of the Diocese of Paris.

Maybe our Burning4Christ can help us here. I believe Baptists (and others) think it might even be demonic, or at least it is proscribed by Paul’s warrant. At best, they might think it useless.

A Catholic Charismatic Priest acquaintance of mine, who had great admiration for Jerry Falwell’s evangelical zeal, mentioned that Jerry (a Southern Baptist) would never allow a tongue-speaker to preach in his church.
Depends on the person. Some Southern Baptists i have talk to believe its faked, I once had someone from the CRC tell me it was the devil taking over me. I cited 1 Corinthians 12 and they had little to say to that. I do agree with some of the Baptists that often people fake it. But it does happen, it’s not a thing of the past like many baptists and CRC’s claim. Paul says he wants us all to speak in tounges and prophesy. The tounge is for all beleivers who seek it, God may not give it to you when YOU want it, but he will give it to all those who seek it when he feels the time is right.

Don’t you know that even a priest can be wrong? If he believes a Protestant can excorcise demons, he isn’t paying attention to what the vatican has to say about these things.
Can not the Vatican be incorrect? is not the pope and his advisor’s flawed and broken sinners like the rest of us? Dont mean to be inflammatory but it says in Gods word “nobody is rightous, not even one”

The pope is never wrong.

I don’t really follow this subject from the Catholic side but to say “only a Catholic Priest” could very well be a disciplinary limitation FOR Catholics. A Catholic bishop would not be making statements about what non-Catholics do on their own time. If they came to a Catholic setting, where an exorcism was being attempted upon a Catholic person, the Church would very wisely limit the participation to those whom it knows have been trained appropriately.

The pope is never wrong.
Romans 3:9-10

“What shall we conclude then? Are we any better? Not at all! We have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin As it is written
'There is no one righteous, not even on;
There is no on who understands”

No man on this earth is Righteous, NOBODY is without sin. Although I hold true that the pope is a Great man of God and extraordinarily faithful in his relationship with God, he is absolutely not infallible. He is not all knowing. To suggest that the pope is never wrong not only defies history and the MANY reversed papal decree’s and corruption within the Vatican, it is blasphemy in the highest order. Forgive my harsh tone but it is absolutely offensive to me to suggest that a man, a sinner, is infallible. There is only one who is truly infallible and the is God. People can be wrong and often are. I my self know that I am not always right, but this is the Word of God, not something i just made up. Justify to me, either biblically or otherwise, how the pope is never wrong and Ill consider it carefully. I understand that not all catholic doctrine comes from the bible, but you do hold the bible to be the infallible word of God do you not? if a doctrine is in direct contradiction with the infallible word of God then how can it possibly be justified?

Ill end this by saying that I mean no hostility, hate, malice or resentment. Although I am a Pentecostal, I have the love that Jesus has commanded us to have for all. Catholics, Pentecostals, CRC’s, Baptists, Methodists etc, we are all Christians. We all believe in Jesus Christ and we all accept him as our personal savior. We need to look at this more than what differentiates us. Imagine what kind of damage we can do to the plans of the enemy, what kind of good we can accomplish if we were to set aside the things that divide us and unite together in spiritual warfare? This world would change in a big way.

He is talking about instructions within the Catholic Church, not globally. He met with Rev. Bob Larson in Dec. 2005. Here is a link to Rev. Larson’s account of the meeting:

freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/1578258/posts

Father Amorth shared his anointing with Larson and his wife in this ministry.

Amorth and Larson appeared on an A & E special together.

I’m not a big fan of Larson and his theology, but as long as he is fighting darkness I will support his efforts.

You just can’t see the possibilities of Catholic exorcists and protestant exorcists expelling demons. What are you afraid of?

Brendan hope this helps carfully consider what I have to say and please consider it to be charitable as well

You are gambling your salvation on whether or not you have interpreted the Bible correctly? Is that what the Bible says to do? How do you know you’re not one of those Peter is talking about in 2 Peter 3:16 when he says, **“There are some things in them [Paul’s letter’s], which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.” **

Peter says there are ignorant, or unlearned, folks out there interpreting scripture in such a way that it leads to their own destruction. Doesn’t that give you pause? How do you know you’re not one of those he’s talking about? And, where does the Bible say that each individual, reading the Bible on their own, has the authority to decide true and false doctrine? Proverbs 14:12, “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” And, Proverbs 12:15, “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes…”

How does the Bible say we are to decide the “spirit of truth” and the “spirit of error”? Do you know? Is it by individually reading scripture?

No! 1 John 4:6 tells us how we are to discern the spirit of truth from the spirit of error…by listening to the leaders of the Church. **“We are of God. Whoever knows God listens to us, and he who is not of God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” **

The popes are not perfect. They do make mistakes. They do sin. However, the doctrine of infallibility states that when a pope speaks as the head of the Church, to the entire Church, in the areas of faith and morals, he cannot teach error.

if I told you that you can know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error by listening to what I have to say, not by reading the Bible, would you think that I was saying I was infallible?

Afterall, I would be saying that by listening to me, you can know truth and error. Didn’t Jesus not only give the disciples His authority, but didn’t He also say to them,** “Whoever hears you, hears Me. And whoever rejects you rejects Me?**”

Did He say that to His disciples or not? Wouldn’t you think that would mean they were infallible in what they taught?

After all, if they weren’t infallible, then if they taught error, Jesus’ words would mean that the people would be hearing Jesus teach error. “Whoever hears you, hears Me.” And, again, isn’t the ability to know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error…isn’t that essentially the gift of infallibility when it comes to teaching?

Jesus tells Peter in Matthew 16, and then Peter and the other disciples in Matthew 18 that whatever they bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven and that whatever they loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven.

Don’t you think that to be rather significant? From the early Christians on, this authority to bind and loose has been applied to the authority of the Church - in having the authority to pronounce on matters of faith and morals, and in having the authority to forgive or retain sins (see also John 20).

But, even if you can give me a good scriptural reference to refute those meanings, can you not admit the fact that if they are endowed with the authority to bind or loose something on earth and that it will be bound or loosed in Heaven, that God probably protects them from binding or loosing error?

hopw this helps
