I had converted to Judaism 20+ years ago but felt a strong and highly unusual calling to return to the Church with the blessing from our priest, and this process took three very eventful years I very much surprised my very devout Catholic wife of 51 years as she only knew that I was drifting in this direction.

When I got up to go to receive the Eucharist, she looked at me and said “What are you doing?”. I just smiled. Then she figured it out before the mass was over.

Anyhow, it truly feels great to be back home.

Thanks for sharing. So from Christianity to Judaism 20+ years ago? that must be very unusual. To me, right off the bat the fact that Jews did not accept converts until relatively recently in their history would be a big red flag.
 
Judaism has always accepted converts. In my case, the synagogue I joined was Reform, which is much more liberal than Orthodox. About 1/3 of the couples in my synagogue were in mixed marriages, mostly Jewish/Christian.
 
It is my understanding that since its beginning and until the early 20th century Judaism did not allow mixed marriages much less admission of ‘free’ converts.
 
That was pretty much the standard with Orthodox and Conservative Judaism but not so with the Reform movement that started in the late 1700’s in Germany. However, I do not know exactly when Reform allowed for mixed marriages as I tried looking it up but with no success.

With that being said, I know a woman who married an Orthodox Jew but who did not convert herself. However, she had to promise to adhere to Jewish Law, including keeping a kosher home plus bringing their kids up Jewish.
