So… I found this site yesterday, and I am. Now ready to make the plunge. I’ve found the nearest church, and found out when the RCIA inquiries are being held. It really is profound, what I found taboo is, well clear I guess. Somethings I don’t get that I’ve read but, I really think the Church of Rome is where the Lord wants me. Your posts at least seem far more genuine and what you’ve said to me make me seem like you care. indeed I felt lost last night, even when I first prayed about it. Then I asked Mary and St. John (my namsake, kinda silly, but I was at a loss) to pray for, after this I felt so empowered, I can’t explain it. truly Mary is not just some woman, and Saints are not simply corpses in the ground. I thank the Lord for leading me here, and may He bless all of you!

that being said, anything else I should do?

Welcome to The Most Holy Catholic Church established by Christ Himself!!

Next to do is to actually go register for that R.C.I.A. group. I just walked into the church and asked the first person I saw what I needed to do and was immediately led to the office of the nun who facilitated the R.C.I.A.
Also, begin going to Mass.
And lastly, make a list of ALL the questions you have - no matter what they are - because you will get clarification on everything you ever wanted to know about HMC in R.C.I.A.
Once again, WELCOME to the rest of your life and the best part of it. :highprayer:

Welcome home!!!:dancing:

Just to repeat waht has already been said: attend RCIA, keep going to Mass, read the Scriptures. If you don’t have a Catholic Bible yest, buy one! My priests recommends using different translations for study and refelction, and I tend to agree. Fro study, I use the RSV-CE2, and for personal reflection the Douay-Rheims. But as Jimmy Akin has said, the best Bible is the one you will read.

Yes, welcome home to you as well! I’m very excited for you, I grew up in a Baptist background too and am being confirmed this Easter! Always good news to hear of another one swimming the Tiber. Do start going to mass, and talk to the Priest after to be directed to the RCIA director to get on your way.

Myrridias,

Welcome Home 🙂 I’d recommend two books, that provide the basics of Catholic faith.

Pope Benedict wrote The Compendium of the Catholic Church and it’s rather like the Cliff Notes to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (which he also participated in writing under the direction of Pope John Paul II).

The Compendium and the Catechism are both available online and in bookstores.

Compendium: vatican.va/archive/compendium_ccc/documents/archive_2005_compendium-ccc_en.html

Compendium (book): amazon.com/Compendium-Catechism-Catholic-Ratzinger-Benedict/dp/1574557203 55 Reviews available

Catechism Index Page: vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/index/d.htm

Catechism (book): amazon.com/Catechism-Catholic-Church-Accordance-Promulgated/dp/0879739762/ref=pd_sim_b_2

Daily Scripture readings:
(audible: usccb.org/video/reflections.shtml
and written: usccb.org/nab/ ) are available at USCCB Website.
The NAB is online as well: usccb.org/nab/bible/index.shtml

EWTN has a program titled the “Journey Home” and the shows are available online on YouTube. The host, Marcus Grodi, is a clergy convert and many of his guests are clergy converts, but not all.

His latest program: youtube.com/user/EWTN#p/u/4/54T43aTiVRo

EWTN is on DISH 261, Direct 370 or Cable 180. ITunes has a Catholic radio station (Immaculate Heart).

Just echoing what others have said, continue going to Mass, and you will hunger for the Lord more than ever before.

And do continue praying. It is good that you asked for Mary and John to pray for you also. I would say, continue doing so. And once you are comfortable enough, there are other prayers you will discover, if you have not yet. I do not want to bombard you yet, but when you do discover these for yourself, you will feel ever getting closer and closer to the Lord.

For additional reading material, I would recommend Scott Hahn’s books also, but I would recommend especially Hahn’s '“Lord Have Mercy”.

Godbless and Godspeed…

I would also recommend David Currie’s Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic and pretty much anything by Patrick Madrid.

Such beautiful news! Thanks be to God for His great blessing to you. :extrahappy:

Welcome home! And remember, the journey doesn’t end at the banks of the Tiber. There are many new and exciting things about the faith to discover every day.

I’m really sad to see that you are “taking the plunge” into the Catholic Church. While, I’m not like many Protestants that think all Catholics are lost, I do think you need to really study the scriptures and doctrines of the RCC.

The Church of Rome is not where the Lord wants you to be. If you pray and show a desire to know the truth, the Lord will lead you away from the RCC. While they fought the good fight in the early years of the church, you just can’t say the same thing currently.

Mary is not a person to pray to. In Luke it said she would be blessed AMONG women, not ABOVE women.

What you really need to do is junk all the Gnosticism and mysticism (emotions and feelings) that the RCC has involved itself in, and pray for the Holy Spirit to open your mind to the scriptures, like he did for Lydia in Acts 16:14. The revealed Word of God is in propositional language as opposed to “feelings,” or “feeling empowered,” whatever that is suppose to mean. The Word is now in written form so that it can be empirically verified, so that you aren’t misled by “feelings,” or emotions.

The RCC, as well as the Eastern Orthodox, have the smells and bells, but that is not what is important.

I try to be respectful to Catholics, since I am a guest on their forum. BTW, I was a Roman Catholic for 20 years before I finally had had enough.

Also, be careful what local church you attend, because depending on which one you pick, you will either get one that is sorta of loyal to Rome, or you could get one that is so liberal they deny all the teachings of the Magisterium.

Before you take that plunge, I would pray Psalm 25:4-5 for a few weeks.:).

First and foremost, WELCOME HOME! 👍

As for your last question, I would say buckle up and get ready for a ride. I’m sure at various points you will be challenged, typically this road is longer than most think. Keep your prayer life up, don’t lose it! You will need God more than ever as you make this journey. Give your self time, don’t become hyper-involved as to burn your self out quickly. Ease in, see where you fit in the community, but never shy away from diserning where Christ wants you to fit.

As far as books to read (over time of course!), here’s a good primer
  1. Jesus of Nazereth Vol 1 & 2 (to be published soon) by Karl Ratziger (yes, that one)
  2. Gospel of John by Steven Ray, this became the basis of the CSS (Catholic Scripture Study www.cssprogram.net) Gospel of John Bible Study by the same Author.
  3. The Mass: A Study of Roman Liturgy by Fr. Adrian Fortescue
I would also recommend working your way up to being able to pray an entire chaplet of the Rosary. I’ve attached basic instructions.

I do think you need to really study the scriptures and doctrines of the RCC.
I agree. You’ll find that the two are 100% compatible!
If you pray and show a desire to know the truth, the Lord will lead you away from the RCC.
Just curious, why would He lead you away from the Church He Himself founded?
Mary is not a person to pray to.
Why, because we can “go straight to Jesus?” If the mere fact that we can go straight to Jesus proved that we should ask no Christian in heaven to pray for us then it would also prove that we should ask no Christian on earth to pray for us.

Praying for each other is simply part of what Christians do. In 1 Timothy 2:1–4, Paul strongly encouraged Christians to intercede for many different things (“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way. This is good, and pleasing to God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth”), and that passage is by no means unique in his writings. Elsewhere Paul directly asks others to pray for him (Rom. 15:30–32, Eph. 6:18–20, Col. 4:3, 1 Thess. 5:25, 2 Thess. 3:1), and he assured them that he was praying for them as well (2 Thess. 1:11). Most fundamentally, Jesus himself required us to pray for others, and not only for those who asked us to do so (Matt. 5:44).
The Word is now in written form so that it can be empirically verified, so that you aren’t misled by “feelings,” or emotions.
Just having *some *of what Jesus said and did (see John 21:25) available in written form is not enough. A proper interpreter is still required.

Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked. “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” (Acts 8:30-31)
Also, be careful what local church you attend, because depending on which one you pick, you will either get one that is sorta of loyal to Rome, or you could get one that is so liberal they deny all the teachings of the Magisterium.
No argument from me there.

You know very, very little about our faith. If you did you would probably be joining him in coming home

What are the Independent Baptist understandings of Eucharist? How do they interpret Sacred Scripture with the Eucharist in mind?

If he is an Independent Baptist like I used to be, the “Lord’s Supper” is barely an afterthought.

Though you say that you are respectful of catholics, I see nothing particularly respectful to the OP here. He has not posted here with a question but with a statement that, “I* really think the Church of Rome is where the Lord wants me*”. Not a question but a statement of faith that God has guided him here.
But you respond that this is NOT where the Lord wants him…
So - You have inside knowledge about where God is guiding this individual?

Frankly, I rather doubt that you do.

Peace
James
