The phrase “a Protestant Ph.D.” is odd and misleading. It most naturally seems to imply that the person is a Protestant and has a Ph.D. You seem to mean instead that he received a Ph.D. from a Protestant institution.

A Protestant (with or without a Ph.D.) defending the claim that the Roman Communion is the one true Church would be something to write home about. Someone who received a Ph.D. from a Protestant institution holding Catholic views is hardly unusual.

Did you think that Protestant educational institutions had some kind of indoctrination program to make sure that none of their graduates ever became Catholic? Or, for that matter, that Protestant institutions refuse to give degrees to Catholics?

I don’t see how one can believe in the doctrine of the Trinity and not work under that presupposition. Of course the 4-5th-century theologians were not infallible, but if their general theological approach was wrong then we should probably all be JWs or Unitarians (or Jews, which I would prefer to either of those alternatives).

I am written before here on the Trinity. I have been told that my view is both underdeveloped but then I have also been told that it is orthodox. I have not investigated the nuances of my view versus Catholicism to ascertain whether that is true or not. I have read that the earliest fathers (only Irenaues comes to mind) can accurately be called Binitarian. But like I said, my interest in this particular area has not sparked enough to fully examine it. I suppose, yes I am sure probably, that when my church was formed the operating presupposition of the people was Trinitarian in nature. I think even the unchurched probably operate under this framework.
I am not ready to concede however that the JW or Unitarians have the best argument from scripture alone and I am not sure if you actually think that either.

He recieved his PHD while a protestant, presbyterian to be exact. He was recieved into the Church in 2003.
