A question about a mortal sin

Is it a mortal sin to have some lustful thoughts on a **cartoon ** character (i.e. Misty )?Well, she is not real so you are not treating a real human as an object and I am wondering if that would attenutate the gravity of the sin of lust.

Lustful thoughts are always a bad idea, and to be avoided.

I see that you just turned 17, and you’re a Pokemon master. If the game is really important to you, you’re probably not going to give it up, but you really ought to consider not letting it have too much influence in your life.

Real people are much more satisfying as friends. They could help keep your mind off inappropriate thoughts about the Pokemon characters. I sort of get where you’re coming from because I had a crush on Tintin once upon a time, long ago.
Hard to believe, now.

Is your religion really Pokeism (sp?)? Are you Catholic? Because being Catholic is vastly more satisfying and healthy than being immersed too much in any hobby. It involves a real relationship with our creator and savior, as you probably know.
I recommend that you not dwell on lustful thoughts, but try to think, as the Bible says, about whatever is true, worthy, holy and honest. (Sorry, I forget the exact quote.)

I really do not have those thoughts about Misty though. I asked that question because I am curious, but I like Misty better than May.

It’s a mortal sin to lust after a tree stump.

When a guy lusts after a real woman, he doesn’t necessarily hurt her personally. Though he is behaving disrespectfully toward her, she will probably never know it. But he affects his relationship with God, himself, and other people as a whole. So if the object of lust isn’t a real person, none of that changes. It remains an improper and disordered use of human sexuality.

I do not know about “baiting” but I asked the question out of curiosity, not because I actually have those thoughts about Misty. BTW, my religion is the same as Ash Ketchum’s.

I completely agree with you about Catholicism and a relationship with Jesus Christ being a whole lot more satisfying as a religion than any Game. I was once a pretty good chess player who’s god was Sports and chess. Well, I found better players, and that god didn’t help much when I gained weight and needed help.

It would be a sin because lust goes against the purposes of sex; the procreative purpose (children) and the unitive purpose (self giving love.) Since lust views another person (or thing) as simply a mode of pleasure, it goes against the purpose of sex, and would be sinful.
