A question about a new meaning for blasphemy I found about

When I looked up the word blasphemy on dictionary.com I found this defination in the lists.
“3.Theology . the crime of assuming to oneself the rights or qualities of God.”.I was thought like “Whoa really?” because I can think of like dozens of examples from video games,comic books,shows and movies were characters say that they have powers on par with a diety?.What do you good people in the CAF think about this?.Thank you very much so for your time.

It is grave sin against the First Commandment to put anything or anybody in the place of God.

It’s very easy in our culture to commit this sin, of having a false god. We are so conditioned to money and material possessions. The latest cell phone and notepad and video game and whatever can easily cause us to lose our focus on God.

To me, blasphemy does not turn on the wording of a new definition. The commonality of all blasphemy is downgrading God from who He is, which is infinitely greater than anything in creation.

One of my temptations is to downplay my sins, and imagine that God really approves of my sin. This is making God into a “god” which He is not.

This is why Jesus was accused of blasphemy–by calling himself the Son of God, He was stating He was God. To the Jews, this was a crime punishable by death.

The comic book and game and movie characters are just imaginary figures. They are just fiction. They can’t possibly commit blasphemy because they don’t exist. Their superhuman powers only exist in our imaginations and the imaginations of their authors. They are not real.

Thinking about Christ’s words to us about blasphemy brings up some thoughts. One, Christ said that we could speak out against him and even the father, but blasphemy against the holy spirit will not be forgiven in this world or the next. The holy spirit proceeds from the father and the son (this notion caused conflict in the church), but holds true. Therefore, since the holy spirit searches and knows the depths of our souls and we are “known” to be fully aware of God in his ultimate goodness, full rejection of him is a fulll and evil act of will against the holy spirit. That’s why blasphemy against the son and/or the father is a sin that can be forgiven, it is an act only of speaking out against him alone as fully man and fully God. But the holy spirit by it’s nature proceeds from both and by it’s nature also sees all and knows all, and in the end is (by my limited understanding), capable and becomes the method by which all things become known and thoroughly exposed. We see in a new light in the end by virtue of the holy spirit’s power. This statement by Christ one of the most revealing ideas because it teaches us as Augustine thought that “in this world or in the next” revealed the concept of limbo. It also provides a glimpse the power of forgiveness on earth, which by it’s nature includes everything else, as long as it is proceeded by a true contrition and the complete sacrament of reconciliation.
