Can you guys provide different perspectives on what consecration is? I was wondering if I could consecrate our night to Jesus through Mother Mary, since it will be a discussion night about The Rosary as a Marian Devotion, and I feel that an explanation behind why it’s okay to do so and why it is significant will make it even more meaningful for me and the group and help rid ourselves of any misconceptions about who Mary is and what her role is.

I have consecrated myself for the month of May to Mary. This is obviously not a “Total” consecration, as it is temporary, but I think it might be a good beginning.

Basically, by this consecration I am a “slave” of Mary at the moment, although the terminology may be not particularly adequate. All the condign merits I might obtain this month do not belong to me, but are appropriated to Mary. This is a good safeguard against pride. In return, I can be secure that Mary is praying for me at every moment, irrespective of my sins and my unworthiness. Within this month, in addition to Regina Coeli/Angelus, which I pray every day, and two Rosaries, which I pray twice a week, I’m praying Magnificat in the morning, Act of Consecration to Mary and Star of the Sea at noon and the Little Crown in the evening.

One could simply “entrust” the meeting to Our Lady. Such was the word St. John Paul II used a lot.
