I’m in a couple of groups that pray for eachother, much as we do here on these forums. We ask for various intentions and in some cases people say for a private intention or for an urgent special intention. It peaks my curiosity for sure, but I get it, so I ask in prayer that they be given what they need.

Some people when we ask for prayer intentions (before the group rosary or before a holy hour or something) have been adding “in thanksgiving for…” or even in some cases “in thanksgiving for a private intention”

Is that weird? Is it normal to ask eachother to thank God for you? Maybe it actually is a common practice, it just seems weird to me. Thank you Lord for whatever private thing you did for my friend?

Yes its normal. The psalms show this, they ask for things and give praise and thanksgiving for stuff. Its not bad (boasting) because you are thanking God for what He did.
