Hello,

I'm hoping to ask this question in a way that won't be offensive. I don't wish to bring harm on any aspect of faith in this regard. I think its been asked before, and I think I knew the answer before and accepted it, but I have forgotten the answer.. which is why I am asking.
My question is this… If the Blessed Virgin Mary is in heaven, which is a place of eternal happiness, then why is she said to be crying in so many apparitions (aside from the fact that it is a sad sight to see so many turn away from Her Son.) What I mean is this, if she is in heaven now, then why is she experiencing sadness? Shouldn’t she be free and happy and nothing would be bothering her?

It just doesn't seem to make any sense. I mean, why have a heaven if you are going to be sad all the time looking down at such a sinful world of people turning away from God - people whom you love and you know God loves them, people whom God wants to be saved but are now destined for hell because of what they choose? That's kind of what its like to be a Catholic in this world today NOW... so why would heaven even be restful or appealing? Its like then, when you die, nothing will change! It will still be difficult and sad and hard. All of this sounds not very logical or hopeful and confusing. I get the feeling I'm missing a really important aspect of all this!

I was hoping someone could set me straight on this, because I heard a Protestant dissing Catholic beliefs (and laughing at them) because of his perceived logic using this particular question. I'm not sure I have the answer/antidote for this question. It has got me wondering, and I'm feeling shaky in the faith.
Thanks in advance!

why is she said to be crying in so many apparitions?
I’m not aware of any apparitions (at least none approved by the Church) in which the Blessed Virgin was crying. Do you have an example?

Of course, artwork depicting the Passion will often show her crying, but that’s not the same thing as an apparition. And, FWIW, I’ve never seen any artistic images past her Assumption that depict her crying.

Lasalette was an approved apparition where Mary was crying…

I don’t know really, but sometimes when I look at the stations of the cross and see Jesus nailed there I start tearing up. I know he is already risen, but it’s still so sad to see what was done to him. Maybe Mary is remembering his death.

Lets not get worried about what FWIW means.

I think the OP is trying to ask, Why does the Blessed Mother cry, when she is in heaven and heaven is an eternal peace and happiness?

My answer: I have no clue.

I saw a story yesterday about how Mary was crying blood on a statue.
This brings back a story. A long time ago in the early church, their was a heresy, forgot the name, but it was about these priest, bishops, and sometimes laity, that would “consecrate” a host and wine to the Body and Blood of Mary. Is this possible? No. Is this a heresy? Yes.

What could Mary be crying? Maybe regular blood? Maybe Christ Blood? Maybe Her blood… Just a mystery to ponder.

Now this is just a stretch, but I can imagine our Blessed Mother crying as she witnesses how the secular world has turned their back on God. Her only Son gave His life for us flawed and frail humans to bring us back to God. She has come various times throughout history to help guide us in our faith and love of her Son, and for the most part, we have ignored her and allowed the secular world to gain strength and push God to the side. I feel terrible just typing this. Imagine how our Blessed Mother feels.

That’s beautiful.

Gratefulone,

I so agree with what you had said. I see it that way too. But my question is that how could it be that if she is in heaven (and we know and are taught that she is) and that heaven is a place of happiness, where sorrows of this world cannot touch us anymore… then how could it be that she is crying? I mean, if even in heaven, you can see all the crumby-ness and horridness of life down here and it gets you down… then how is heaven a place as it is said?

I think what you said is very interesting... I think that may be a partial clue to the answer.. After all, we are called to meditate upon Christ's death and by doing so we are remembering His sacrifice for us, and how He was completely undeserving of such. It is through His cross that we are saved.
David Filmer,
Yea… like the other poster said… LaSalette. I think there were a few others but I am not remembering them right now. Perhaps I am confusing some of those crying statue or icons that you hear about that aren’t necessarily approved. There seems to be a lot of them these days. If I remember correctly as well… wasn’t it said that the Blessed Mother was crying in the apparitions at Akita? Of course I would be speaking about only those apparitions in which are approved.

As Our Blessed Mother is the Queen of Heaven and Earth, which she became upon her coronation, she still is engaged in bringing all of mankind to her beloved Son. Even as she reigns in Heaven, she still has work to do here on Earth. To intercede on our behalf. To carry our prayers. To help guide us to her Son. Not an easy task in today’s world.

Maybe the happiness in Heaven is not being unable to experience sorrow but to be absolutely sure, and indeed have happen, that God will comfort us with what we need when we do experience sorrow. In Revelation, it says that He will wipe away every tear, not that He wouldn’t allow us to start to cry.

peace
steve

Perhaps they are not tears of sadness, but tears and feelings of empathy and sympathy.

Thank you Gratefulone and Thenobes-

Oh dear me…I had forgotten about Her title. (repenting now) … That makes sense. With that title it means that she has authority and with authority comes watchfulness over one’s subjects. Also, thenobes, its true what you say… thanks for pointing that out!

Oh and to further add to your point… also in Scripture it says that we won’t need Faith and Hope anymore when we are in Heaven and that only Love will remain… I can’t imagine there would be no crying if all there is love. Love is, after all, what makes us cry! … Or maybe I’m thinking about it in the wrong way? (i.e. there are many types of love… self love for one, which is not good, right?)

Good point too!

There is a small Orthodox Church near my house that has a weeping icon of Mary. I think when I first heard of that, I gathered it was because she had shed her tears because of empathy and sympathy. (They are struggling.) I had forgotten about that… so thanks for pointing that out too!

Please do not let this shake your faith. Just keep praying, that is all we can do.:signofcross: Do not lose your faith, or else the evil one wins. We are in a battle, we are the Church Militant. Its a battle for souls.:knight1:

I watched a documentary regarding the tears & blood, etc. The gist of what I got, is that
it seems that she has appeared in different places way in advance, several years or more, as a warning, and people do not listen to these warnings. Her tears are because she
suffers for us, for her children, because of what we are doing to ourselves, because of the amount of abortions, etc. etc. If we listen to her warnings, things can turn around…

Do not despair!

Take care,

God Bless you,

PAX :highprayer:

Thanks Megan for your encouragement.

Faith is a gift … and it really is a battle for souls, isn’t it?
