Has anyone heard of Massimo Coppo, a lay Franciscan of the Famiglie di Betlemme (somethink like “Families of Bethlehem”, but often titled, “IACA”)? He isn’t the founder, but his recent appearance in a raggedy Franciscan habit during the election process of the current pope has made the community somewhat famous. They were deemed heretical, but some bishop, they say, lifted that status in 2006. I like his style, but wouldn’t want to promote a heretical or schismatic community, though I admit one exception: Dedicated Decades, a publication, and The Rosary Album, were made by SSPX members and has nothing about Vatican 2 or the NO Mass, but are merely Catholic material all, except liberals, can OK. Does anyone know if they are in good standing, now? Thanks!

SSPX is still stubbornly not in union with the Roman Catholic church, in spite of the Popes appeals and welcome into it just a few short years ago. They have a bastard child, called the SSPV, which is a more extreme version of them as well now, and technically, there are tons of churches that call themselves Catholic, but aren’t in union with the Roman Catholic church due to some key base beliefs, such as priests being able to be married, the ordination process, the union and formation of what’s currently being taught. Some are better then others, and it’s another form of Protestantism, be it, not to the level of mainstream protestants.

Do we of the body of Christ cut down others, nope, and that’s the fruit one must observe to see which branch it’s grafted onto. The sspx that continues to ridicule our Pope, is not part of the body of Christ in my opinion, and it doesn’t make any sense why they would consider themselves as being part of. The good that has been done due to v2 speaks for itself, the sects that do good, are equally so, but understand, there is only one Catholic church, and we proclaim this at every single mass…

The Franciscan that choose to wear grubby clothes, bravo, but at the same time, if one has the means to improve their appearance, they should for special occasions. If that was his best, it means he has forfeited his allowance for clothing to give it to the poor instead, and again, bravo for taking things to that type of a humble level of existence and being.

The only fruits I have seen since V2, whatever is at fault, is widespread heresy and liturgical abuse. I know of few in my family and former classmates who believe what The Church teaches. A schismatic group wasn’t needed, but it’s to be expected when you reconcile Church philosophy and arts to the world and withdraw disciplines and nondogmatic teachings that were come to by those who accumulated wisdom from experience and Biblical insight. Most all Catholicism is a schismatic sect from the hierarchy and its council and Mass they always say how much they love. Since the issues never have been tackled, we might have some schismatic national groups of the leftist heretical variety, as noone can take our hierarchy seriously. I do not approve of schismatic traditional groups, but I sympathize. Thanks to Ecclesia Dei and S. P., we can be obedient and save our souls from the people’s affections-pleasing ordinary rite mispractices that are so because the ego was released by the N. O.

They appear to have Benedictine links, too:

From their site:
Una comunità denominata poi “Comunità famiglie di Betlemme”… ispirata allo stile Benedettino di preghiera e lavoro: " ORA ET LABORA " .
The community named then “Community of Familes of Bethlehem” …inspired by the Benedictine style of prayer and work “ORA et LABORA”
