When I was in Fatima, Portugal, several weeks ago, the pilgrimage guide said that when Pope Paul II was shot some years ago, he had a vision of Mary deflecting the bullet. I wonder if anyone has heard of this somewhere, since I haven’t. (The pilgimage leader mentioned this at Fatima since Pope Paul gave credit to Mary for saving his life, and the Pope brought the bullet with which he was shot to Fatima to be put in the crown of the statue of our lady of Fatima.)

The vision is an interpretation of the 3rd Secret of Fatima. It was revealed by the Cong.of the Doctrine of the Faith when Card. Ratzinger was the head of the committee. You can get the link from the usccb.org.

Then-Cardinal Ratzinger refers to this incident in one of his interview books (“God and the World”, maybe). It’s part of his discussion of JPII’s Marianism.
