Sorry guys you might see a lot of my posts, but that’s just because I have a lot of questions. So the other day I saw a news report about the recent riots in America. While watching it I uttered " g-----mn it, this is bad", the bad word was totally unplanned and I wasn’t trying to offend God in anyway. Witch left me the question, did I just comment a venial or mortal sin? I did not say it in an angry way, and did not plan to have said that. I looked at the rules for something to be a mortal sin and it said that you must have full knowledge of what you were doing. Again I had no intent on offending God, but I need some help on what I have done.

Saying such a thing would be a mortal sin, but if it slipped out of force of habbit or for any other reason that kept you from giving sufficient consent, it would be venial. Regardless, I would get to confession asap.

Okay, fellow scrupulous brothers, it’s time to get a spiritual director if you don’t have one and pose these questions to them.

To answer the original question, I would say it’s not mortal if you really just slipped up.

willfully saying gd is a grave sin.

I would suggest that In the OP’s case of it being a bad habit, it’s venial, and pretending it’s mortal is an insult to Our Lord. Jesus isn’t desperately trying to catch everyone out and send them to hell.

Ask Him for help.

“I plead with you! Never, ever give up on hope, never doubt, never tire, and never become discouraged. Be not afraid.”
“If He asks much of you, it is because He knows you can give much.”
