As priests who celebrate TLM, do you have a preference for a pommed or unpommed biretta?

I’m not a priest, nor an expert, but I thought I’d throw this out there to see if my understanding is correct: the pom on the beretta is more of a French thing. Most American FSSP priests I’ve seen do not have poms, but I know one who studied in Europe who does.

This is what I have heard as well, concerning the French orgins.

However, I have very seldom seen pom-less birettas, even on FSSP or ICKSP priests. The only group I see wearing pom-less with any frequency is cardinals, whose birettae, by nature, lack a pom

I am also not clergy…

This past Sunday, the priest and the 2 deacons were wearing pommed birettas. This was an OF mass ad orientum. This particular priest studied in Rome.

?? I’m not sure what you’re saying
I’m not clergy, so your question wasn’t really for me but…

Well, like I said, I’ve seen quite a few pom-less FSSP priests. The ICKSP, though, is a different ballgame, since they’re famous for being fancy. 😛 Their seminary, if I’m not mistaken, is in Europe, so all of their priests would then have poms. For some reason, I’m also tempted to say they have to learn French either during or before their studies.

Yes, and I think they get to add blue elements to theirs as well…

I think they’re a French Institute, so that would make sense. I think their official business is done in French

They do. The poms are blue! Their superior’s cassock is entirely blue. It’s pretty! But they may not like it said that way, so I’ll say it’s handsome. 😆

Makes sense!

And their servers get to wear those beautiful blue capes…

I love where I altar serve- the reverent, well-done Novus Ordo of my home parish will be special to me always.

But EF servers are far and away a class of their own

I have a friend who serves the EF, and I have attended it as a server in choir multiple times.

I’d certainly love to, but as of right now I don’t think I could- I’m a senior in HS, with a pretty full schedule.
If there’s a TLM where I go to college, that’s certainly a possibility.

If, God willing, I enter seminary, I absolutely want to learn TLM.

My current ranking is my own diocese (somewhat TLM friendly, and with a new bishop coming, hopefully more so) and then a tie between the FSSP and Dominicans.

I have heard from seminarian friends that pastorality is not the strongest suit of FSSP parishes, and I’d like to stay close to home, making Diocesan the most attractive option

Dominicans for the win!

If they could guarantee placement at one of their parishes within 2 hour’s drive of my home city, absolutely.

I’m too much of a homebody, though haha

I doubt they’ll guarantee that, but you could always ask.

You could also become a Third Order Dominican once you are a diocesan priest. 🙂

Do you have a spiritual director yet? You should ask about it.

My own parish priest is discerning a called to be a Third Order Dominican. Fr. Longenecker is a Benedictine Oblate. Wasn’t Pope St JP II attached to Carmelites somehow?
